My dad used to own an gmc grain truck with the 2 speed rear end, but the switch was a switch located on the dash, not the lever on the gear shift. Has anyone else seen a two speed axle switch like that?

When I was a kid in the mid sixties,my Father was transferred to the Farmer John Meats branch in Phoenix on 35th and Encanto, and they had three Chevy C-60 refrigerated delivery trucks ,one a 62 with a 261 4 speed,a two speed axle,the other a 63, with a 292, 4 speed,2 speed axle,and a 64 with a 292,4 speed,and 2 speed axle.they held up well,and they were a great looking trucks.I am hoping anybody who has any pictures of these old Farmer John trucks,I would love to see them if you care to share,Thanks Again.

I got operate this same truck set up with a crane. Boss asked if I could drive stick and I said yes. He said well here’s hi/low and now you got 8 gears. Only thing I can add is you can’t get in much of a hurry shifting gears. Got to let the rpm’s match what your doing. Then he assigned me to drive that beast 250 miles, yep at about 50-55 mph.

Nice car. I know there are plenty of good reasons to up date a lot mechanically on this car and putting a small block V8 in it would be the easy way to go. How about up dating it with later straight 6 like a 292 and a stronger trans and rearend with improved brakes? In the Rodder's Journal within the last 10 years two early Chevrolet coupes were featured that were both full fendered traditional rods with straight six cylinder engines in them and lots of improvements to the drivelines. The builder had a lot of experience with updating Ford flathead cars and he updated the Chevy with later (but still old) Chevy parts just like one would update a '32 Ford with a late flathead, 39 trans and hydraulic brakes. Just my two cents!

I love watching the progress and seeing you start with this pipe dream as I called it in your garage out of a rental home many years ago to a storage unit of sorts, then store front in the hill country with a full shop and now this. I thought you were crazy then and slowly realized what entrepreneurship is, the dream and all of the hard work that comes with it. Can’t wait to see the final product

Hey guys, please dont rod this car! Find a body that is not worth restoring or keeping stock and do your rod. These old cars are only stock once. Clean it up and sell it and take that money and buy a body and frame. People are looking for these old cars to drive as is. Thanks for listening, Randy

Why this is not something that we can used on modern pick up trucks ? I wish my 7.3 got this...
@wildbill23c2 жыл бұрын
Simplicity and laziness...take a look at today's pickups...all automatics, crew cabs, 4 doors...being used as soccer mom mall cruisers instead of being used as trucks. Throw in a 2 speed rear end and people would be lost, throw in a 2 speed rear end and manual transmission and people would be lost...3 pedals on the floor, a gear shift lever, and you have an anti-theft device for many of today's generation...if they have to do anything other than steer its way too much work for them. A 2 speed rear end in one of today's HD trucks with a 10 speed, would turn it into a 20 speed....they're adding more and more gears every generation of truck now it seems...man they'd be lost if an HD truck still only had 3 gears and you had to shift them yourself, and the shift lever was on the column. Would certainly lesson the number of drivers playing on their phones if they had to shift, change rear end speeds, and steer LOL.

i agree with you i agree with you. That car is in really good condition i don't under stand why good cars like this get hot rodded by people like this guy. its a real shame for someone like this guy getting a original complete car and modifying it. this does make me extremely sad because there is not many of these cars left :( and this car could of gone to someone who would actually not mucked with it and leave it original. this guy is to dumb to see that. this is so disappointing and shame on this guy for changing a original piece of history into a ugly modified car.

Cool ride, We rescued a ‘27 Buick a few years ago and lucked out as it had been sitting in a garage for 30+ years after the owner passed away. His Wife/Widow decided after continuing to paying $500 a month that her Husband had rented to store this car, his TWO 1953 MG TD’s (I got both of the MG’s for a friend of mine), and approx 150-200 Vintage outboard motors that she wanted to part w the cars and turn the rental over to her Son who also had his boat stored there. I found registration cards dating back to the 1940’s in the car and an envelope post mark dated late 1930’s with a man’s name typed on it. I looked up the name and believe I found maybe his grandson. I never reached out to the man as my luck he’d try to lay claim to the car or something!🤦🏼♂️😂😂
