When I was a kid in the mid sixties,my Father was transferred to the Farmer John Meats branch in Phoenix on 35th and Encanto, and they had three Chevy C-60 refrigerated delivery trucks ,one a 62 with a 261 4 speed,a two speed axle,the other a 63, with a 292, 4 speed,2 speed axle,and a 64 with a 292,4 speed,and 2 speed axle.they held up well,and they were a great looking trucks.I am hoping anybody who has any pictures of these old Farmer John trucks,I would love to see them if you care to share,Thanks Again.

I got operate this same truck set up with a crane. Boss asked if I could drive stick and I said yes. He said well here’s hi/low and now you got 8 gears. Only thing I can add is you can’t get in much of a hurry shifting gears. Got to let the rpm’s match what your doing. Then he assigned me to drive that beast 250 miles, yep at about 50-55 mph.

My dad used to own an gmc grain truck with the 2 speed rear end, but the switch was a switch located on the dash, not the lever on the gear shift. Has anyone else seen a two speed axle switch like that?

Yeah I love that two speed axle but my brother had an old one time but he had to dump it broke down with a six banger in it the split shift but I'm not sure what what year it was but I think it's the same as a 62

That's a cool truck with the 292 that's what my brother had but I'd almost vote for the V8 for dependability so the one I'm buying has got a 327 and probably so it's going to be sweet

What rear ratio do you have I’ve been looking at a 79 c60 with a 366 4spd&2spd rear with 6.50 gears

Four and two's and five and two's are cool but you haven't driven a stick shift until you have driven a five and four.

How does the 292 handle towing weight?
@holmeshotrodsandcycles3195 Жыл бұрын
It'll tow the world with the right trans and rear gears....292 was literally built to be a torque monster

Why this is not something that we can used on modern pick up trucks ? I wish my 7.3 got this...
@wildbill23c2 жыл бұрын
Simplicity and laziness...take a look at today's pickups...all automatics, crew cabs, 4 doors...being used as soccer mom mall cruisers instead of being used as trucks. Throw in a 2 speed rear end and people would be lost, throw in a 2 speed rear end and manual transmission and people would be lost...3 pedals on the floor, a gear shift lever, and you have an anti-theft device for many of today's generation...if they have to do anything other than steer its way too much work for them. A 2 speed rear end in one of today's HD trucks with a 10 speed, would turn it into a 20 speed....they're adding more and more gears every generation of truck now it seems...man they'd be lost if an HD truck still only had 3 gears and you had to shift them yourself, and the shift lever was on the column. Would certainly lesson the number of drivers playing on their phones if they had to shift, change rear end speeds, and steer LOL.
