Coolest trains ever . . . Especially the talgo , always wondered what transition car was ? Like baggage car ?

The (beloved) Talgo VI sets that ran until 2017 until that silly accident had “bat wing” ferings on top of roofs of baggage car that was usually located next to F59PHi locomotive and the other batwing car was a power car that provided electrical power for all other cars. This one usually was next to F40 NPCU. All Talgo VI train sets were retired after 2017 accident and scrapped. Sad.

What are the model number for skirted wagons?
@truebras
@truebras 9 ай бұрын
Sorry, these wagon sets, one with 3 and another with 4 are in storage now. So, I don’t have easy access now. There are extra cars, the postal and some coach cars. I believe they were released about 20 years ago when the streamlined Br 05, MA 39050 came out. They come to sale on EB from time to time. These are DRG/ pre WWII era.

There are some key points about sound for LJ. # 1 Custom built sound file. Since, I did saw LJs operating in Brazil in late 1990’s, I know how they should sound. You can hear the low frequency ramble of traction motors when pulling a heavy load. That you won’t hear in the videos of preserved and functioning South Shore, because always travel light nowadays. # 2 The use of TB modules is for this reason. If you plan to 3D print an enclosure for sugar cubes, it won’t work with correct sound file since sugar cubes only reproduce sounds above 400-450 Hz. It is a no go. If you are planning to use PRR GG1 sound file is no go, too. You need speakers that go lower.
@dugenpippenger4811
@dugenpippenger4811 9 ай бұрын
If you look at the pentrex series 1 videos that were produced in the early 90s that low frequency rumble is there. Further I have recording from the 802 at IRM where the mix was placed right up against the no 4 traction motor. The sound you here from those DC motors is the interaction between the brush and the armature. It can also be extracted from other heavy dc equipment and modified digitally to get a quality substitute. It my case I was able to extract it from the pentrex video. Normalize it and loop it to be as loud if not louder than your while playing through my custom fat boy speakers. I am hoping to release it sometime next month after the pantograph controllers are finished@@truebras
@truebras
@truebras 9 ай бұрын
@@dugenpippenger4811, Interesting how you will come out of sound. I do have that Pentrex video, but it is a remastered from the originals Super 8mm or 16mm film movie cameras. Some 16 mm were able to record sounds, but they were terrible rudimentary. The material was from 1974. Maybe it was recorded with a cassette or compact reel recorder. So, unless if was done by the later, which still marginal, I wouldn’t count of sound. Most scenes of LJs in that video unfortunately mix with EMD prime movers that were led by LJ. I do have various SVHS video recordings from the last 3 years that LJs operated in Brazil and these have way better sound quality that that material that was recorded 25 years before. There is some footage with heavy load. Which does not sound like when South Shore running light or by itself. Regarding electronic powered panthos, I hope you found a more elegant solution than MTH version. To be honest, I feel that it is a gimmick that in practice you don’t end up using because unless the canthanary system is no less than perfect, it becomes a PITA. I operate European models that have pantographs on layouts with canthanary, but because to often problems of pantographs getting snagged in the canthanaries, I don’t use them anymore.
@dugenpippenger4811
@dugenpippenger4811 9 ай бұрын
Probably wont be perfect, but what exactly are the options? Use the the comically bad GG1 sounds on stock MTH decoder or have something thats close enough. I honestly couldnt care less and beside the very small majority that need everything to be perfect, the hundreds of people who bought this locomotive will be happy to have something that kinda sounds like a joe. @@truebras
@truebras
@truebras 9 ай бұрын
@@dugenpippenger4811, I agree. Most of people that bought MTH LJs does not have any idea of the prototype sounded. MTH is basically using the same sound across its electric locomotives. They just slightly alter the pitch/ speed of recoding to “give character “ of each model.

I had to replace the Japanese can motor, because that was shot. I installed a modern Roco motor in the same motor mount. And because the running qualities after I change the motor were so good, I decided to do a complete DCC/sound installation. I know by experience that this Metropolitan Model runs better that SBB models made by Fulgurex of same era. One of reasons is that it has fully enclosed geared power trucks. While Fulgurex of same era have exposed gears inside a box like brass frame. Combined with in some models with open frame motors, they can be much noisier. For instance, I would much have a crocodile by Metropolitan than one by Fulgurex. This Ae6/8 model was built in Japan.

Nice video. I saw it just today, but noticed it is already quite old. In your description I noticed a question about the baggage cars. The Fleche d'Or used the special container baggage car of the CIWL; 3 of these were made. Before these were available the baggage car with the Fleche d'Or was a NORD baggage car and not a CIWL baggage car. The brown/creme six door baggage cars have never run in the Fleche d'Or (but it looks good in your video anyway). The container baggage cars are/were available in H0 from RMA, Sardegna Express and Wabu but not very easy to acquire (I succeeded in having all three and also in 0 and 1 gauge).

Thanks for your comment. I know that marrom/cream didn’t run in the Flèche d’Or consist. Yes, I tried to find the correct baggage/ container wagon. But find one living in US is pretty hard. No everyone wants to ship it over here. Maybe one day I will find one by luck. Or wait until REE, LS models or someone else makes one.

I would really like to own an ho scale model of a SP GS 4 class locomotive in the future at some point, the MTH ho models are all sold out unfortunately so the next best choice will be either BLI or Bachmann. I really hope that BLI improves the performance of their paragon4 decoders otherwise I am going to have to settle for a Bachmann Gs4 model, I would like to see a Gs4 engine available in the black/ silver "war baby" paint scheme as my personal preference.

So, about 15 years ago when webpages looked very different from now, someone posted elevation drawings of Talgo VI generator and baggage cars. I think these were reproductions or prototype manufacturer, Talgo. That was how I roughly started cut shapes on styrene sheets. That site is gone now. I also downloaded as many pictures of Talgo VI trains. So, a lot was done by eye. I no longer have any interest in making another set because it takes too much time to do it. Someone is offering the shark fin roof and also complete generator and baggage cars in 3D printing. However, I noticed that is not correctly done because the sides doesn’t conform with curved sides of car nor the arch of fin shape doesn’t look right. Anyway, that is me, I am extremely picky about correct details. You may find these 3D printed parts at Shapeways.

Thanks for sharing your terrific MTH HO triplex work and results through your videos. How do you remove the boiler shell? I'd like to inspect the motor and drive train assembly inside my 5014. Also, do you have a spare set of triplex traction-tire drivers, or know of anyone who might? I have the traction tires, but need the drive-wheel set to put them on. Thanks again.
@truebras

This model is NOT MTH. Read description. MTH definitely copied features of this HO model made in 1986. Even with traction tires, if the case, MTH Triplex only can pull half as much this model.
