might be a little down with how much attention aklos link is getting, aklo beat the #1 player in the world with link, which has always been redx's goal, so yeah Red if your reading this, don't feel too bad, aklo's fox carries him to finals, he only whips out link when it favorable, there's still room for a solo main link player in the top 100 spot :) keep grinding man

@@toewstokane9023 since you were kind enough to reach out I'll tell you. I am going through a series of very life changing events and I have other priorities to focus on right now. BUT, I am not discouraged to keep making content I just have to put it on the backburner for a good while for now. ( Not sure when I will return to content creation atm ) And to be clear, I am so proud of Aklo and his achievements. He has proven part of what I've always believed was possible with Link and he worked hard for his results. Whether with Fox or Link he is one of my Link brethren and I have nothing but respect for him. I even messaged him constantly giving him advice so he could defeat Zain ( his demon ) and each time we spoke, he got closer and closer till it happened. Could not be happier for him. But no, winning against the #1 player with link is not my ultimate goal. Nor is winning a super major. I aim for something imo far beyond that. I'm going absolute try hard with link and I wish to push this character, myself, and my skills as far as I can envision them going. I believe he is S tier for a reason ( not just cause of acid drop ) and I wish to push myself to the level I believe I can reach with him in order to show everyone and myself why. This is my journey and my dream. And to be clear I'm not doing this for acknowledgement or clout. I am doing it simply because it is what I wish to do. It's a dream worth working towards and one I'm excited to achieve someday. A dream I've had since my high-school days that I want to fight to achieve.

hey redx, love your content, and really think your link is otherworldly. i really wanted to know though, why don't you use young link?Aside from faster attacks and movement, YL can also acid drop. why link?

@@itsmannylol thanks for the kind words and the question. Honest answer is aesthetically I like Link more and he is much more personally intertwined with my childhood. I loved Ocarina of Time especially the adult link portions of the game. That's why I chose him over young link. Also a big factor is the differences between yink and Link's bombs. Yinks are multi hit so all the recovery options + bomb launch tech + dark deity cancel stuff I've showcased are not possible to do with yink ( to my current knowledge ) That and yink's weaker kill moves, multi hit up B, and shorter hookshot range. I do believe in the character though. I think he could be really great but people have to find new combo routes for him or ways to make up for his weaknesses.

I don't know how you make a link combo video to through the fire and flames work, but it's here and it's awesome. I've come back to developing my young link for counterpicking/funzies because of how motivating this video and your optimism is. Link has gone a long way because of you folks, Hax$ went so far as to put him as potentially #14 on his current list, which is much higher than just a few years ago. Not really sure what else to say other than you're awesome and keep meleeing 👍

@@meedogh9378 hard agree. It's a real tough one when getting juggled. The weak hits send you all over the place and it can be hard to keep track of where you are / where you'll be sent cause of how fast pika can combo

Man this was a super interesting set. One question I had was about kill setups against Pikachu. When Pikachu is at high percent what makes you go for down throw --> dair vs going for dthrow --> upB? Is it based on the DI and do you have to read it or can you react to it?

Thanks for the question and glad you enjoyed! For me personally around 80 - 90% I go for dthrow -> dair cause it will kill at that %. Up B will not. At higher %'s like 110 - 120 or so, I go for up B because it usually kills and it is faster than jumping and dairing. That or I go for dthrow -> upair at even higher %'s DI is a factor to but for me % is the main factor that determines what I go for

After watching many of your videos, i'm starting to think Falco is an easy matchup for Link.

@@felippogaglianoneneto621 I'm honored to hear that cause it means my work is paying off but no he's def not. I put him at top 5 hardest matchups. Falco does really well when suffocating link not with his lasers but his dair and shine pressure. Most falcos I face though, do not do this to the extent that it causes link a ton of trouble. They usually relieve the pressure at some point. Most terrifying falco is the one that does not let link breath and spaces their aerials so it's very safe shield pressure on top of being oppressing. That and they chase link down for each tech chase with dtilt, fsmash or more dair pressure

Pikachu is so underrated! I think people should main him more, he's such a good character! Melee has a big popularity issue, everybody wants to play only three or four characters, and the vast majority of the cast remains obscure and with untapped potencial to this day. I'm glad that players like you decided to change this and develop more the unexplored mid tiers like Link or Pikachu, and i hope this changes the Melee scene for the better.

@@felippogaglianoneneto621 you and I share a similar dream. I want much more char variety in melee cause all the chars when fused with melee mechanics are so freaking cool. Here's hoping more pika, gnw's, zeldas, Kirby, browsers, plumbers, mewtwos, and fire swordsman mains take to exploring their potential even further as well.

Pikachu is very good, but shares a lot of the same strengths as Fox and is similarly hard to play while also having a few glaring weaknesses that make people want to pick up Fox instead for the same effort. Things that hold Pikachu back are instances like his awkward recovery, limited range, and one of the worst grabs in the game. He also loses trades very frequently which matters a lot since Pikachu doesn't open up holes in people's defense like other characters do. The obvious strengths to Pikachu that are unique to him are one of the best recoveries in the game once mastered, an oppressive tech-chase game, and the ability to take early stocks thanks to his absurd edgeguarding moves and fantastic movement. He's one of the more underexplored high-tiers in Melee, and I think that will change soon. People know Pikachu is good, but people also know that he's pretty damn hard to play.

@@felippogaglianoneneto621 honestly not sure. Pika destroys in the edgeguards but does have trouble getting in. It might be slightly pika favored just cause of the edgeguarding advantages pika has + how hard they are to edgeguard in turn. Still working on this one though

Watching your games with the more floatier characters recently is making me really see how important Bomb play is going to be for Link in the future. They really let even someone like Jigglypuff stay more grounded where Link excels, it's gonna make a world of a difference for the Link Meta to continue developing their Bomb play. Low-key sucks that Link might have some of the worst early Rest punishes in the game, does he really not get anything off an L-Canceled move? I know it isn't always going to matter, but damage is vital on Puff and that's an area that should also be optimized if it can.

Yeah I theorize link actually has great rest punishes but it also is from link's bomb rather than his sword or grab moves. Namely I have the idea of cross up bomb -> single hit bair -> utilt strings.

You're getting really good really fast can't wait to see what you do next. One thing I've thought about is the potential of a 50/50 mixup after you down throw someone onto a side plat that already has a bomb on it. Where you can choose to either z catch the bomb as you follow up or zair teeter cancel to set up the decagrab. Both of these can give you a wide variety of options on the followup to to punish different tech options/mess up their DI by calling out their habits. A combo I had on my mind after watching your tech video that I'm not sure is possible [down throw onto plat > z catch bomb on plat as you rise up > throw bomb up in the middle of the plat > zair teetercancel decagrab > upthrow cancel]

@@RedXLink Watching your videos, i'm changing my vision about Link. He's by far my favorite character in the game (and also my favorite Link, the hero of time), but i tried to play him, and couldn't defeat Ganon's level 9 CP. I felt he was too slow on his moves (i was acostumed with smash 64, and on this game, everything is faster), so i became frustraded and eventually stoped trying. But, while seeing you play, i believe there is a place for Link even in a fast paced competitive environment like Melee's. You're making me want to try ang get better at this game!

That's awesome! Yeah I believe platforms are key for almost all the cast to keep up with the faster members cause the drop through plat speed is universal. That and platforms as aMSa has shown can be used to increase a character's base movement speed by using waveland's to move rather than their run speed. I'm working more and more towards applying the same idea to link in melee
