Still, an instructive clip. I've done something similar using ferric chloride as my chlorine source. I too am careful with such reactions. A very famous rx about getting FeCl3 to about 70 C or so to etch copper clad circuit boards. Works pretty good with other stuff too. A lot of sitting around watching your thermometer and picking your teeth, so to speak. Well done.

Well, kinda unexpected quick update (23.3.2024): I forgot to mention in the video, the main reason why I went to neurologist - I've got an exploding head syndrome (LOL, but srsly look it up). Pretty harmless stuff apparently, but frightening as hell. Anyway, looking at some more literature, I found thing called "Sleep inertia" which I called paralysis. Could me more issues combined still... But the symptoms match quite well, and I can imagine severe cases actually causing severe issues when waking up. The sleep inertia is supposed to be caused by adenosine buildup, so that should be testable at least. In conclusion, it seems, that I am seriously fucked. Like having that much disorders in one particular bio/mental function would suggest to me, that something must be obviously wrong. But, I went to MRI, and mechanically, all seems to be OK. There is one thing that comes to my mind: When I was young, I did bite a wire that was live (240V). I lost consciousness and woke up screaming, which would suggest to me, that my heart did restart. this felt, like I was shot in the head (whatever that feels like, I would say it has to be pretty close). But on the other hand, I am pretty sure I had issues before that happened... Final note is that I will have to stop valproate experiment for next 6ish months. This is because you can't fly while using it. Was trying to get exception due to low dosage, but nope :/ I may try to check if valerian root extract contains any valproate (which I was allowed to use). Also the blood sugar test. But mainly will see the effect of stopping valproate usage. Update #2 (24.4.2024): I was busy moving to new location, so I had to prolong normal sleep cycle as much as possible. The date from this period clearly shows, that the paralysis intensity got much worse after I stopped using VPA, but question remains, whether this would happen anyway... In any case, this should be replicable. As paralysis intensity increased I have noticed, that my speech was getting more and more slurred after waking up to the point, that I almost wasn't able to speak. As I have technically completed moving essential stuff, I have stopped using alarm clock so resumed natural sleep cycle. Don't have much data still, but speech seems to be much less impaired after waking up now. This can be another "objective" metric that can be tracked. Similar to the speech slurring, I have experienced increasing eye redness. For now these seem to be highly correlated also subject to more research. This is very weird, but I feel like this amount of clues should get us somewhere.

Will do in about month, since I need to collect bit more data. tl;dr valproate seems to help. But... The sleep paralysis is not completely gone. Sometimes it happens with much much shorter duration. Even as short as 1 minute. Not great, but this allowed me to actually investigate it in more detail. Got myself pulse oximeter and seems that during paralysis pulse goes down to 40BPM. Looking at this with EEG+EKG would be definitely nice, since symptoms are very very weird. If I would imagine what epilepsy feels like, I would say, it is like having mild seizure. I have done (very) quick research on this, and I suspect nicotine usage could be a factor here. Well I can test at least what nicotine deprivation would do, but other than that not sure. Other than that it's probably purely neurological in origin, which is not great... I have added some updates in comment here, will probably copy paste this there. I wanted to sit down sometime and write stuff I have investigated by introspection, but didn't have much time. There is a bit more, but not sure if relevant to this topic...

For those who want to make it: 1. You need a kiln heated to 800-850 C (you have to play with temperature 2. You need a mould (iron or stainless, quarz pipe pease wolud wirk, but never tried 3. Glass shall be ground on a ball mill and seived to size, depending on the porousity you want to get. 4. Put the frit to the mould and compact it (with beaker bottom or something. 5. Put the mould with the fritt to the heated oven for 5-7 minutes, but you have to play with time a lot to get good result. 6. Take mould out and cool on the table, remove glass when it is still hot. You may use some talc to make tge mold less sticky to glass

How's your experiment going ?
@IlusysSystems6 ай бұрын
Actually it seems, that it is going well. So far I am testing sodium valproate, and it would be biiiiig coincidence, if I got 51 day streak of normal circadian cycle. However, in data previously recorded, there is such streak ,at about same time of the year, which may or may not be caused by using extract of valerian root, that I have prepared in certain way and did not just reproduce the extract later on... So I need bit more data to report on progress. Plan is to have data for 90 days of this particular experiment. Data for full year would be even better, but that would be fine as its own update.

@IlusysSystems6 ай бұрын
I have used 6g of NaOH to dissolve a lot of aluminium. It just can't be only sodium aluminate. How it works? I am not completely sure. My theory is, that Al is attacked by sodium ion of NaAlO2 and then it reacts with water. That is very testable theory, but didn't test it myself.

Cool. I wonder if it can be used to make gems with like the alumina made from crushed corundum. Also, to get rid of the sodium salt you can wash your ceramic with water. Mix it with water, let it settle, pour off the top water and repeat until it isn't salty. Then dry the ceramic.

This isn't really helpful, but even though the vapor pressure of benzaldehyde is low, the amount of gas you were running through it for that amount of time was probably enough to evaporate most of it as quickly as you were making it. I've had this problem when chlorinating hydrocarbons where the huge amount of HCl produced is enough to carry away most of the product. For me and for what I was doing, a dry ice gas trap worked. That probably wouldn't work very well for you though without at least a gas drier before the ozone generator or you'll get nothing but water ice.

My 3 MOT welder can weld steel with less wattage than that. If I want to weld with hydrogen, then I could just dunk a 6013 in water or expose it to humidity. After the cellulose in a 6013 absorbs enough water, then I could get a hydrogen flame while welding.

You can use breaking if you install a break chopper. You would need to mess around with a comparator and a power transistor on a heat sink or you could use the analog inputs and a PWM output of the arduino. Let's say you connect a voltage divider from the power rail to the A1 of the arduino. If the supply rail is increasing over the safe voltage, you start ramping up the PWM to turn on the power transistor across the supply rails (with a load resistor) and dump it as heat. That's exactly what industrial VFDs do when DC breaking.
@IlusysSystems9 ай бұрын
But it does introduce spikes on 5V regulated rail. Those are LDO's so it's probably crappy ESC design. Anyway at that point either 5V zener would probably work, but then I could have bought servo tester and not waste arduino on this.
