Great video! I'm a newcomer to small bikes, but have been riding big bikes since I was 18 yrs old back in 1986. My wife and I toured Mindenao in Philippines quite extensively some years back on a small 125ccm scooter, and I discovered that the fun of riding is not about the cubikcentimeters of your engine, but the people you ride with and the places you go... Now I'm on the outlook for a small bike, I'm not sure if I'm a scooter guy, but something under 500 ccm and older than 1990, would definitely suit me. I love, however, to ride long distance, so a good group of people could also be decimental for what I would end up choosing to ride...

with that many riders, i think getting a support vehicle would have been a good idea. a van with a trailer, it could carry out rider and scooter too and spare parts to keep on going... it is cost effective and everyone well enjoy the trip...
@HollaenderDK22 сағат бұрын
We talked about it - but no one wanted to go in a van/car. All scooters 🙂 We had some assorted spares and tools with us. In Italy it's fairly easy to find a local Vespa garage. We picked up an ignition coil in Italy and a few things at SIP.

Woohooo...a real adventure. After the shaft replacement, valve, and cylinder repair, it should be good for another 60 years and 40k!!!!!!! I've been in similar situation. I broke down and a guy in a pick up truck stalled right in front of me. We got his truck going, loaded the scooter in his truck, and he had an uncle about 2 miles away that welded the frame for free. Of course I still paid him, but neither of us spoke the others language(the nephew did, but left after the intro). What a day. Ahhhh, the smell of 2 stroke in the morning 😁

The Vespa is very reliable. Bad roads can make you fall down and possibly break something on your scooter. You need a good machinic with you. I had a 1964 Sears Allstate Vespa that I had to mix the oil and fuel in a 2% mixture. That means there is less that can go wrong with the oil automatic pump. The gas was better before they started puting ethonol in the gas. I put 40,000 miles on this scooter and went thru 5 tires and a few spark plugs. Changed the 6V bulb in the tail light to a 12V. The 6V kept burning out. Absolutely no problems with anything. Then a guy wrecked it.
@HollaenderDKАй бұрын
@@docalexander2853 Yes, most scooters today run 2% - older original motors 3-4%. We try to stick to high octane fuel. It normally has less ethanol that can eat your rubber hoses and gaskets. Many people upgrade their ignition to a modern electronic version. Then the scooter runs 12V and is easier to start and has less electrical problems.

First things first amazing video second it's Insane to see how much you were able to get on that classic scooter of yours. I've had a couple scooters in the past and I can't wait to get myself a new one! I loved your video with such a great sight to see the eastern part of the world. my wife is going to Europe several times her favorite places to visit our Germany in Austria, it was really nice to finally see what it looks like! Definitely seeing the mountains always gives my heart the chills where I live now it's just flat not much to see you with the eyes back home it was always nice to see the mountains. I will admit my favorite thing was your friend scooter that he had painted camoed out definitely made me pause the video a handful of times just to look at it 🤣🤣

Hi, I'm in Sweden and I am currently looking at a 50 cc two-stroke Vespa from 2015 for 19500 SEK, which is approximately 12,285 DKK or 1,677 EUR... The owner seems to have taken good care of it. I’m curious if anyone here has experience with these smaller engines for longer trips, especially compared to the 150 cc or 300 cc Vespas. Do any of you use 50 cc Vespas for longer rides, or are the bigger engines more reliable? I’m also considering tuning this 50 cc Sprint up to 100 cc. Is that worth it, or does it put too much strain on the engine? I’m not super familiar with Vespa engines yet, so I’d really appreciate any advice on whether this 50 cc could be a good option, or if I should save up for a 150 or 300 cc from the start. Thanks so much for any tips!

@@HollaenderDK a quick question, did you pre-book the hotels or guesthouses or did you call and book shortly before arrival? I'm asking because next year I'll be travelling from Berlin to Sardinia on my vespa GTS and am about to start planning my trip :)

@@XPQ21 The first two days was on prebooked hotels, as we had a clear destination for these days (The SIP event). The rest of the days we called the same day. Usually in the afternoon, when we had a good idea on where we would be. We were riding in the start of the summer, so it was fairly easy to find hotels.
