Off topic. I’ll take a cold steel ( SouthAfrican made) machete over pretty much anything. They have a steel dguard that is integral with the blade and the 1055 high carbon steel is tougher than anything else that I know of. They are the only blades that hold up under joex destruction test. And yes you can stab with a machete. I’ve been through way too much real life shit to give a squat about how fancy a blade is or what the legacy might be or anyone else’s two cents. In a muddy bloody chaotic scene, the dguard keeps it in hand, provides , support , protection and leverage. The cold steel wakasahi and katana machetes are also fantastic, you would be hard pressed to find anything tougher especially for the price. I prefer weapons that work for me because I’m not a swordsman.

@@Tantojutsu I once drove to check on a house where the tenant moved out and there was shallow but dense snow on the driveway. I had no problem driving down the driveway but could not drive back up. I called my brother for snow shovels and then took my Cold Steel Barong Machete out of my trunk and started prying sheets of snow off the driveway. I had about 1/4 of it cleared before my brother arrived with the shovels.

What this topic always brings to mind for me is something I saw somewhere about ashigaru creating makeshift swords out of broken, found blades. The idea being that a sword made from the broken blade of a naginata could end up being a straight bladed sword. I seem to recall seeing an illustration to that effect somewhere. Which is of course not proof of anything. Just a plausible idea for where a sengoku era straight blade might come from.

I've seen that. But it really does not relate to this matter. Some have tried to make the case that they are connected, but it is a very extreme stretch.

About the Togakure sword: What is the lenght of the blade? It loos not as short as a Wakizashi or Kotachi, it looks a little bit longer than those. As I am right, the Shoninki states, that Ninja often used Wakizashi/Kotachi inside the hilt of a regular Katana, just to have an advantage in faster draw and also narrow spaces, but I am not sure about. That's why I am interested in the lenght of that blade

I left a comment on a indie game developer's page telling him not to change the katana to a 'ninja sword' and someone chimed in telling me that the 'ninja sword' was historically accurate, my argument was that we have hundreds of thousands of katanas in circulation that are centuries old and not one of them is a 'ninja' sword. When he realized he couldn't dispute that, he told me that "There was some weird cover up with ninjutsu".

The first time my 7 year old daughter was invited to come play at the Dojo, Sensei was demonstrating a technique. My daughter whispers to me 'what if the guy just kicks him between the legs?' I say, 'Sensei is teaching something else right now.' 'But what if he did?' she says. 'Sensei would do something else.' I said. Not satisfied, she got her chance about 10 minutes later when Sensei asked her to come up and help him demonstrate something. He wasn't even looking at her, he was addressing everyone else in the room when out of the blue she launches her foot at his groin. He caught her leg between his knees. didn't miss a beat, continuing to finish his explanation to the rest of us and held her leg there until he was ready to proceed with the demonstration. I got a real good laugh about that later, but afterword told her 'There. You got your answer. Now don't do that again, ok?'

Good points, Don. Not only does pain not always work, but not all pain techniques work on every body type. A somewhat related story, really more about Kyo-Jitsu Ten-Kan Ho and groin strikes. I'm one of those people that aren't greatly affected by them. I've known some people that would curl up in a ball on the ground for ten minutes from a light groin tap, but I'm not one of those. I once had an associate that was 6'4" and weighed at least 300 lbs. Once he found out that I taught martial arts, it really seemed to bother him. Every time he was around me he would say, "I can still kick your a$$! I would usually reply something like, "Well, I hope so, it's only three feet off the ground," while pointing at my backside. One day, I had enough and I told him that I would give him a free groin kick to prove that he was wrong. I stood with my legs wide apart and he punted me right between them. I rocked my hips forward so that my glutes took most of the impact. The guy literally lifted me off the ground, and I threw my head back and started laughing. Sure enough he came back again and tried to kick me as hard as he could while I wasn't looking. He didn't notice that I had changed my posture slightly and as he kicked, I dipped my right knee down slightly and his upper foot caught the full force. He started to curse and limp around. He yelled, "Why did you do that?!" I said, "because only the first one was free." He ended up fracturing his foot, but he also stopped harassing me when I came around.

Pain only works when the subject cam feel it AND cares about it. If they don't care, pain compliance is pointless. The original AirTaser was pure pain compliance, and demos worked great... until they got a guy who didn't care about the pain, and was willing to suck it up to keep going. That led to the development of the proprietary shaped pulse that disrupts voluntary muscle control...

One person at Disney asked what it was for and I truthfully told him it was for carrying my water bottle. He told me it was a good idea, but to keep it quiet or Disney might start selling them 😂

I'm Japanese, so I use the translation function. Assassin's Creed games are really influential, and facts are altered and plagiarized. Japanese people are getting angry and complaining because the main character is black. This is racism in Japan! Or white people pretending to be Japanese and posting racist comments. I learned that there are such opinions and articles from overseas. And that there are people who mistake them for fact. I understand that it's too late to stop selling that game now. There may be people who want to buy it at this stage. The inherent goodness of games is that people who want to enjoy them can enjoy them. There are many Japanese people who don't mind that the main character is Yasuke, who is black. I wish they could just enjoy it. But there were too many problems that I couldn't forgive. There were so many plagiarized images on the screen. People from old photographs of historical Japanese people are appearing as non-player characters without permission. The screen shows all four seasons at the same time, cherry blossoms blooming in early spring, out-of-season rice planting, plants that only exist in autumn, and when I found it, I thought it was a comedy game and laughed. In Japan, torii gates are barriers that separate the sacred world of shrines from the secular world where humans live, and indicate the entrance to the sacred world. Torii gates are gates that have meaning in the religious sense of Shinto. They are definitely not village gates. Moreover, in the advertisement for the game aimed at Japanese people, the subtitles displayed on the screen were in Chinese instead of Japanese. It was also strange that the advertising catchphrase was written in a different language. Some people felt that they were being mocked. If this game is based on historical facts and the real Japan, it is unacceptable that the content is full of misunderstandings and prejudices, the creators have no intention of learning about Japan, and the streamers have a bad attitude towards the game. Also, I don't want game companies to treat the content of this game as if it were real information and intentionally spread misunderstandings and prejudices against Japanese people all over the world. But in reality, Japanese people just pointed out mistakes and facts, and for some reason they are called racists against black people. They keep being called that. They just pointed out plagiarism. They just checked the history. They just pointed out something strange on the screen. Many Japanese people think that the fact that Yasuke is a black protagonist is no longer relevant. Our voices as Japanese people are being ignored so much that some people are starting to mistake us for racists. This is because game companies are making the world think that way by answering articles and interviews. Also, Yasuke certainly existed in Japan for a short period before Oda Nobunaga died. I couldn't find any records of him as a samurai, but there is no doubt that he was one of his subordinates. There is little documentation, and he was not well known in Japan until recently. But it is an indisputable fact that he was with Oda Nobunaga, who is famous in Japanese history. If the game company had at least said from the beginning that it was a Japanese-style parody fantasy game, I don't think Japanese people would have been so angry. I don't really care if Japanese people are killed on screen or not. It's just that people who enjoy it can enjoy it. It's fiction after all. But the game company is intentionally stirring up Japanese anger. If this game is based on historical facts and the real Japan, it is full of misunderstandings and prejudices, the creators have no intention of learning about Japan, and I don't want the game company to treat the content of this game as if it were real information and intentionally spread misunderstandings and prejudices against Japanese people all over the world. Just by pointing out mistakes and facts, some people are starting to seriously misunderstand Japanese people as racists. Japanese people want to preserve the facts and history left by their ancestors as accurately as possible. And above all, they absolutely do not want to be treated as a race that has discriminatory opinions. And yet, I read in an interview that the production team made statements that made it seem as if Japanese people were racist. The production and sales teams said that this is a historical fact, and that Japanese people who complain are racist. The production and sales teams repeatedly made statements that could be interpreted as discriminatory against Japanese and Asian people, revealing the dishonesty of the creators one after another. Even these are only a small part of the problem. There are even tweets from the official website that hint at punishment for Japanese people. But if we Japanese don't speak up now, discriminatory behavior that denies humanity just because of skin color is truly incomprehensible from a Japanese moral perspective. I hate being treated as a racist who does such incomprehensible behavior the most. I also find it very unpleasant that Yasuke's name is used just to cover up the terrible treatment of the game as a whole. I feel like it's denigrating the people who lived through that era. It's just a game. But the attitude of the game company distorts the identity of Japanese people. So, at the very least, please do not believe that Japanese people are a racist group. We Japanese want at least one person who believed the mistake to know the truth, so I left a comment on KZbin, where comments are less likely to be blocked. I have watched a lot of related videos. Videos by people overseas who believe in and defend Japan. Criticism videos that take the game company's word for it. But as a Japanese person, I am truly grateful and respectful that there is someone out there who speaks accurately about Japan's historical understanding, and for the sincerity with which he tried to convey the facts as accurately as he knows them, without exaggeration. Humans are selfish creatures who find their own values in the course of their lives, and sometimes only believe in what they want to believe. Each person's values and truth are right in front of us. I sincerely hope that no one will criticize the person who posted this video. I apologize if there are any typos.
