A strong piece among Stravinsky's string quartet pieces. Great performance.

This is superbly recorded and played. The piece can sometimes sound 'mushy' and is too frequently trivialized by our British ensembles. In some eerie way this reminds me of a performance by Barbirolli close to end of his life, with a section of the Halle Orchestra at the King's Lynn Festival decades ago. The work certainly needs a conductor because its many layers are deceptive and holding the contrapuntal parts together can be tricky. The conductor and players must also feel the deep passions between the quartet and strings. Elgar (a string player) knew his craft and composed a true masterwork.

Probably the best, most passionate, yet most precise playing of this masterpiece, certainly on KZbin I have ever listened to and watched. It surely benefits from a conductor, who can offer tiny subtleties of timing hard for a conductor less ensemble to achieve.. Elgar here achieved such an incredible combination of classical concerto gross o elements with grandeur, energetic power and sweep, with yearning emotion, this has to be at the very apex of great composition of any period, and the playing meets the stupendous technical challenges. Bravo!

I wasn't familiar with this work until lately and I must agree with the approach of this work with this orchestra. Imagine a Russian Orchestra doing the best justice to and English composers work...who would have thought.....I loved it

Today was a wonderful day of Russian culture, Gogol's The Overcoat, and now these gifted musicians: Julia Igonina, Elena Kharitonova, Alexander Galkovsky, Alexey Steblev, Alexander Rudin, performing in Mosco, in a beautiful hall. Peace on earth, Amor Mundi.

I am surprised at some of the criticism in the comments! You all sound wonderful, an elegant and spirited rendition of this piece. I am a bones player, and frequently moonlight in a castanet language. This is one of my repertoire pieces, and your version is lovely to practice to!! Congratulations all around.

I think this is the best KZbin recording of this music of genius. The presence of a conductor creates tiny subtleties of tempo and intonation denied a group with no conductor.

What a disaster, look at what you have done with this masterpiece. The castanets attached onto a woodboard.
Gracias por este excelente vídeo y director, músicos. una de las mejores ejecuciones que he oído del Op. 47 de Edwuar Elgar.

The guitar player with the man-bunn is a HOOT. There could have been a little more "oopmh" in the phrasing, but a nice spritely tempo nonetheless.

Very Very Pretty. Even with a New Viola player in your Quartet. What ever happened to Alexander Galkovsky, the Original Viola player who retired from the quartet? He did a very good job doing his solo part of your performance of Elgar's Introduction and Allegro.
