That back bolt sucks to get. Luckily, I had this Titan 1/4 micro ratchet that worked better than any other ratchet I had including all my hinge and offset ones. I had to use a piece of tape to put the bolt in the socket to put it back on. It’s a pain, but I got it.

Second Bracket Nut: First challenge i had was to see it. The Original CC filled that gap so much it was very difficult to see the second nut. Once i could see it, the best path for me to get to it was from above. I used a 15mm wrench. I had to reach around the right of the exhaust manifold and was just able to get it lose. Then it just took a little time to loosen it enough that i could hand turn it. With putting it back on, the replacement CC i have was not as big as the original so i was able to have that 2nd nut started, but loose, and got the CC in place and nuts started on the manifold.

I have no problem servicing my own commercial van because it's so spacious and organized inside. But I have to become a clock smith to service my family SUV since everything inside is packed! By the way, I'm envy diesel mechanics for not using the stands at all times.

As a pro-carpenter, I started my journey from sweeping floors and pinned at the mitre saw. And after 9 years, I'm a licensed carpenter can build a house from foundation to the final interior finishing, and able to lead small team. Also, I have decided to become a self-taught mechanic because the mechanic in my area like using very rough cheap labour and almost messed up my light commercial van. So I started from reading manufacturer's repair manuals, studying similar models to my van, watching other mechanics tutorial videos, and so far has completed the following tasks: 1, oil & filter change 2, ATF change and valve body cleaning 3, Rear screen wash unclog and spray nozzle refitting 4, Serpentine belt and tensioner replacing 5, Drum brake rebuild with brake adjustment (the mechanic warped my old drum causing very uneven wear on the shoes and side-vibrating wheels) 6, Disc brake service and check 7, Radiator upper tank crack temporary fixing By the way, my commercial van has a petrol engine but the layout is very similar to a heavy diesel truck and its inside is very spacious for tools.

Got two and half years as a GM/Cummins Diesel Tech. Worn 7 days a week, rain, mud, snow, diesel fluids, etc. Leather finally gave out, never conditioned or babied so more than likely my fault. HIGHLY RECOMMEND, extremely comfortable, wedge soles where/are still mint. 165 lbs not a big boy so wear varies obviously.

It all depends on who you work for from my experience. Dealerships vs non-dealerships. I’m a tech at kenworth and they would rather you be a “master kenworth tech” since it’s their training.I don’t get paid anymore for ase certs. But no such thing as too much knowledge! Congratulations!

If I were you, I'd get new ones as you mention pros and cons of various styles. Resoling would require you to be committed for another 3 years? And while thats great marketing for thorogood, I'd move on. You could always come back to them. Furthermore, do you realize you could sell them on eBay and get big bucks?

@shawndavid651919 күн бұрын
im coming up on 2 years in my thorogoods, was planning on resoling them when they wear out. i think you should get it done you’ll probably get another 3 years out of em. but if you’re not in love with them and want to keep trying different boots i tried on some slip on danner boots the other day in the store and they seem like a thorogood/blundstone hybrid they seemed pretty solid and comfortable too. around the same price, american made and seems to be a good future work boot

For the sake of this video and your channel, it would be fun to see them resoled and see how much more life you can get from them, but it’s also not cheap either. Whatever you decide they are awesome boots! Best of luck!!

I'd be curious to see how they come back after a full clean and re-sole. Not sure if it's worth it compared to a brand new pair though.
@campfire5220 күн бұрын
I think you should retire them and move on instead of paying to have them resoled. Put your money on a new moc soled boot instead. Good luck.
@55points20 күн бұрын
if you like them have them resole them They could look real good with some work as well. One thing I learned with work boots is the breaking in transition from a boot that knows your feet to one that does not can be trying to say the least. Even just to ease into a new pair when you wear them a few days, and the old one a few days until the break in period is done. Just my thoughts. Not like you wont wear them after that anyway from time to time. If you decide to get rid of them later bring them to Goodwill or some other place like that. Some poor guy or a kid just starting his first job could use them.

Hey how’s it going man? Great video, just had a quick question. I’m looking to get into the diesel mechanic trade but I don’t really have the time to go to school, I kinda just need to start working. I know I’d start out at the bottom which I don’t mind but do you think I’d be able to get hired without going to a tech school?
@TheDieseldog21 күн бұрын
@@reyex8212 do you have any tools to get started? There’s definitely shops that will hire and train, just might take some looking around. There’s apprenticeship programs at some of the dealers that will train you and pay you to get started. I know Freightliner has one and I think CAT has one of you want to look at heavy equipment repair. Theres definitely ways to get started.
