12 - 15 years ago when it has -20 or worse in western North Dakota we would get the day off. Loved fishing on the Missouri River while sitting in the truck. Best of luck and tight lines.

I live in Wisconsin and you can use smaller fish for bait on the same lake you are fishing on, and I have caught a lot of northern pike and walleye and large mouth bass, ice fishing and summer fishing
@JacksonBaumgartOutdoors8 күн бұрын
Yes I’ve done that also if I run out of shiners while tip up fishing, jig up a small bluegill and hook that up. Works well and saves money on shiner minnows! 👍

I cut it the regular way and I cut out the Y bones and I have a lot more boneless meat and less meat on the bones
@JacksonBaumgartOutdoors8 күн бұрын
I agree with you. Honestly I’m starting to realize this 5 step method deserving of all the hype it gets. On really big pike it’s nice, but for the average size pike those loin sections aren’t all that big and sometimes it’s easier to just cut out the Y bones.

Another thing you can do to help the battery stay warm is keep it tucked in an inner layer when you're not using it. Keeping it warm gets you more holes per charge.

Nice video!! Best thing I learned from my father-in-law to avoid slime with northerns is get a good potato or feed sack and right after you catch a pike, throw that northern right in the sack in your sled. It will help cut down on the slime a lot before you bring it home to the fillet table. And for panfish, he also showed me that using a grocery paper sack in a bucket helps cut down on slime on those fish. And those are fish are just as lively sitting in that paper sack, too.

Good to know! The slime definitely is an inconvenience.

Another thing you can do to help with your hands is carry a hand towel with you. I started doing it 15 years ago and will not go on the ice without one. Getting your wet hands dry is a must
@JacksonBaumgartOutdoors15 күн бұрын
Absolutely. I forget my towel more times than not. The striker bibs actually have towels right on the thigh area which are convenient. Another advantage of them if your bibs and jacket don't get fish slime all over them from wiping hands there lol
