Why do u sound like a damn actual tutorial that would be used for plane engineers and maitnance crews
@billcroft4497 күн бұрын
Hello, I would like to know where the information on the advantages and disadvantages of the push-pull configuration comes from? I also want to know how to find the information related to the design of the front and rear power systems?
@Echo37 күн бұрын
Some of the advantages only apply to real life as KSP doesn't consider fluid dynamics in its physics model. But as far as Newtonian physics it does. This opposite rotation of the propellers cancels the torque and makes the plan very stable and easy to fly. I don't remember what all sources I used as I did a lot of research about prop planes and helicopters. I know I also asked a lot of questions to my friends that are actual pilots.
@billcroft4496 күн бұрын
Thanks for your answer. I would also like to ask you whether there is any additional vibration problem with the rear engine in the push-pull configuration. If so, is there any literature on how to solve this problem? And whether the efficiency of the rear propeller is disturbed by the airflow through the front propeller, causing it to decrease? Finally, are there any design solutions or design difficulties related to the intake and exhaust of the push-pull engine?
@Echo36 күн бұрын
@@billcroft449 I know I read up on a lot of this before making the video. Unfortunately, I'm not recalling all of it. I believe there were some slight issues with efficiency with the rear props due to the airflow around the fuselage - maybe it was about 80%. I don't recall reading about any issues with the intake or exhaust. Some advantages I remember were that it didn't have the noise issue that a typical contra-rotating prop design has, but it still cancels out the torque. And there isn't an off center thrust issue due to the loss of an engine. Rear mounted props were a liability early on in aviation as it was very dangerous for a pilot trying to bail out. But with an ejection seat, this wouldn't be a problem.

once I figured the low gravity of the mun, I just made a gigantic rover, cause I wanted to go fast without losing control, called it the monstrosity, took a ridiculous rocket to get it to the mun, but it was worth it.
@Echo38 күн бұрын
You can also place an engine like the RAPIER on the rover with the exhaust side pointed up. The center of mass of that engine is further forward than the piece itself. So, you can make a rover with the center of mass below the ground. This is very stable.

My plane has too much lift, when I go off the ground it just flips

That doesn't sound like a issue of too much lift, but either an issue with the center of thrust or the placement of the wings.

can you tell me if such design works the same way as autogyros in the real world? i mean the end effect is the same but ksp doesn't exactly simulate aerodynamics so the autorotation may be achieved somewhat differently? also nice to see other people building autogyros in ksp
@Echo313 күн бұрын
As far as I know, it works similar to a real one. I did research on how they were set up. For more realism (and this would more like how they are really designed), you can add some hinges between the unpowered rotor and the blades to let them flap a little bit and swing fore/aft a little. The game doesn't have a full aerodynamic modeling, but with FAR and the ground effect mod, it would be pretty close

@Echo320 күн бұрын
This is before I was recording in 4k. So, you are making a counter-rotating mini helicopter. The basics are to make the rotors as small as possible, use the duct fan blades, use a KAL-1000 to adjust the blade deployment angle. Bind the blade deployment angle to the KAL and bind the KAL to the main throttle. Set the deployment angle in the KAL to go from 0 to about 8 or 9.
@qie2iqee20 күн бұрын

While this works, I prefer to do it like you did on the helicopter video. I put a KAL controller and bind it to the deploy angle of the blades, then assign the play position to the main throttle. This way we have finer control especially for landings, since decreasing the RPM does not have immediate effect.

I agree. Using the KAL to control the deployment angle is my preference, this is to be a quick and easy tutorial. No need for that fancy KAL-1000.

Thanks for this tutorial man, I still have a few questions though. 1: My plane keeps banking to the right, is this normal and how can I fix that? 2: I can't seem to turn the propellers like you said how to. For the rest, the vid is excellent!
@Echo3Ай бұрын
Are you using one or two rotors? If you are only using one, then the torque from the single rotor will cause the craft bank. This is one of my earliest tutorials, so I don't think I explained things overly well. I like to bind an action group to rotor torque. This should get them started and help you control your throttle. Don't hesitate to ask questions, I'll do my best to answer them. I'll also active on Reddit and the KSP forum with the same user name.

With my design, I dropped the propeller stage when the atmosphere thinned to the same as Kerbin Sea Level. So, you may find that Kerbin is not ideal for conducting tests. You can assign yaw pitch and roll control authority to the propellers to help with control. =
