Those pumper carbs wake these motors up and smooth them out too, the stock carb is primitive by comparison and runs pretty rough especially if you like to rip the throttle

I really need to try out my KLX300R in the trails up in northern Saskatchewan. Woods riding looks like fun compared to the back roads of the southern side of our province. Great video! Always wanted an XR400R. Honda was crazy for discontinuing it.
@AUSTIN_45716 күн бұрын
@LPSrcbiker definitely take that 300 on some trails! It is such a good time. I'm mostly into motocross but trail riding is just as good if not better at times. Something about being in the woods ripping a dirtbike weaving around obstacles is so much fun. I agree why honda stopped making the 400 is beyond me. Could you imagine a fuel injected, aircooled 400cc trail bike like there modern CRF250F? I'd buy one for sure! That KLR300 seems like an amazing bike tho too! Probably the closest modern bike to a XR400 you can get. I have a video of these exact trails during the fall time. If you can definitely hit some trails when the leaves are changing colors. It was beautiful and probably my favorite trail ride session I've had kzbin.info/www/bejne/jp_Tmp-mnJZpi9Esi=8y8yZoQnLHq1dyOq

Best video on a DR650 on the net! Good job describing your situation and needs. I'm exactly like you. I have a YZ125 for playing at the track and a wife who wants to ride along sometimes. Might be time for me to purchase a DR650 this spring. The KLX300R will just be a backup bike for my son. Like I said, most of my riding in Saskatchewan is back roads. Having a bike that is legal would be a better choice rather than riding the KLX300R around hoping a cop isn't out in the back road touring.
@AUSTIN_45717 күн бұрын
@LPSrcbiker thank you! And yes if you are doing alot of backroading the DR650 is such a good bike for it. Being able to throw someone on the back and have a good time is really fun as well. I would highly recommend it to anyone 🙏

hey i have some questions about the hVr. How many wires does it need to connect to the camera or how does it connect? Does it take sd cards? Does it require charge or battery? And have you noticed any issues with it?
@nosc023 күн бұрын
Lastly, what format do the clips record in?
@AUSTIN_45723 күн бұрын
@nosc0 you need a fire wire cable. It plugs into the hvr and into the VX. Both of them have a fire wire port. It's powered by a Sony NPF L battery. I use a NPF970L style in both the camera and the HVR. It takes CF Express cards. 32gig 120mb read/write speed. It records the video in DV RAW or .AVI file types. I actually have to convert the file format into something else because Davinci Resolve doesn't support either formats. Only issue I have is if my battery isn't 100% charged, it gives me a format error on startup. Once I charge the battery to 100% it works fine I can turn it on and off and it works. For some reason tho after not using it for awhile I have to charge the battery to 100% for it not to give me that format error.

@ it really was the perfect all around bike, for me it was like I could ride anywhere with it, light like a 125 but powerful and torqey like a 250. I think the only downside was the amount of vibration, but that was something you are going to experience on any older 2 stroke bike

@AUSTIN_457Ай бұрын
@gsabella4 well the XR600 had a very hard life and wasn't taken care of when I bought it. Usually smoking on startup is a leaky valve seal. Valve seals are cheap to replace and the job isn't that bad honestly. The valve guide itself usually doesn't fail. It would be worth checking it out tho.

Hey man, sorry to comment something unrelated to the vid but I seen the video of you converting your cr80 to a big wheel, and I’m currently about to buy a 2003 cr85 big wheel as a rebuild project. But I’m about 6’3 and I’m worried that I’ll be cramped. I remember you said you were about 6’3 so I was wondering how it feels for you?
@AUSTIN_4572 ай бұрын
@St1llor I will say going from small wheel to big wheel was a huuuuge improvement in comfort. Being higher off the ground gives your legs more room in instances like corners where you stick your leg out. However at the end of the day, it's still a 80. They are not made for 6'3 guys haha. If this is your only bike i would 100% recommend a full sized bike instead. My CR80 is my "pitbike" tho. It's not my main track or trail riding bike. It's not made for guys like us, but fuck man it is such a blast to ride! A little awkward but so much fun. Long story long, if you don't have any other bikes, don't get an 80. You would be better off getting a full sized bike. Whether that's a 125, 250, or whatever. If you already have a full sized bike and just want a little 2 stroke rocket that is a blast to ride, get that 85!
@AUSTIN_4572 ай бұрын
Check this video out. It's me on the 80 at the mototrack. The beginning has clips of me sitting on it just to give you a size reference. You'll see me stand up and notice that my knees are way above the seat haha. Standing up is the worst part about the smaller bike. But if I can ride this bike on a motocross sand track and have fun, I'd say that's a win. It's not the most comfortable. But it's doable! kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHauo6yNedxjrcksi=P19ftXKuX1xOzNir

@KJ-qr9sm 80-85mph is the fastest I've gone on it. I could probably get a bit more out of it but the motor would be redlining. I usually cruise 60mph and keep the RPMS low. I could change the gearing and get a higher top speed tho! Might do that once I need sprockets

@AUSTIN_4572 ай бұрын
@garagedchaos6353 hell yeah thats good to hear 🤙 I thought about putting a hot cam in this bike. Mostly do to me wanting to remove the decompression mechanism from the stock cam. I heard they like to fall apart and tbh I like using the manual decompression lever better anyways. That's how my old xr600 was. Figured if I was going to go through the trouble of taking the oem cam out and removing the decomp stuff, maybe just taking it out and slapping a stage 1 or 2 cam in there would be easier and yield me some performance. Reliability is my only concern with that

@AUSTIN_4572 ай бұрын
@RippinInTheMittenMX funny enough I dropped my forks down to get some more stability and then I got that nasty head shake lol. I messed more with my shock than my forks. @AUSTIN_4572 ай бұрын
@@RippinInTheMittenMXI think im going to tighten up my steering tho. I usually like the tighten up my steering stem nut kinda tight and right now the ktm isn't that tight. @RippinInTheMittenMX2 ай бұрын
@@AUSTIN_457 mhm thats interesting on dropping the forks, wounder if its more of a clicker issue. I was able to reduce my headshake by going softer on compression and faster on rebound so maybe try the extremes of that, the bike was just too stiff and not moving fast enough to give me the movement I needed when it was stock. Id try to soften it up until ur closer to bottoming out on big jumps then speed up the rebound to get it moving more freely in the chatter bumps.
