What battery boxes are you using? I have an Alza spec'd XL with the center diff. I'm running a Hobbywing 5687 motor and I've gone through several battery boxes that completely rip off. I've tired stock and some custom ones I made. I plan to custom make some more but this time I'll try steel plates. What battery boxes are you using??

@mvtepixels

@@rawrc I like the Proline Badlands MX38 HP Belted to run on dirt and gravel, and the Sweep Terrain Crusher Belted to run on asphalt, both very good tires. Non-belted I can also recommend the Team Corally Mud Claws, those tires have hard compound rubber, which reduces the ballooning. The drawback of those Proline and Team Corally tires is the weight, for a stock Savage with a 2200 kV motor, those tires are too heavy, overheating being one of the problems. Tires are a very complex topic, especially when it comes to belted ones. I also want to mention that this Savage is just for speed bashing, I don't do jumps with this one, I have another Savage just for jumps where I use the Arrma Backflip LP wheels.

I found your videos on HPI Savage Forum. I was a mod for a while on there probably like 20 years ago, I have a couple nitro savages, a 4.6, a SS & a Flux HP. I kind of got out of RC for a while but recently I pulled my Savages out. I love your Savage(s), they look really fast and.... they look great, looks like you know what you're doing. I have a question, other than what you listed in the description, is that a stock Savage Flux XL? I noticed a few things, the TVP's look thick (one of my nitros has 6mm thick integy TVP's but yours look at least that thicK, the motor is mounted in the middle (in my stock Flux HP its to the side. it looks like direct drive? I dont see a transmission? There's no radio box, and that's just what I noticed from the pass you made over it in the video.. oh, I have a another question, I just got a new steering servo for the Flux. I haddent realized it can be run on voltages up to 8.4 volts. IDK what its running at in the Flux HP, I haven't had a chance to measure it yet (just put it in and it seems under powered). Is there a way to increase the voltage to the servo (I guess there is no throttle/brake servo on Flux?) using the castle link or some other way? I really am curious about the differences I see in your truck, (just thinking, does it even have a clutch, LOL, just realized IDK if mine does?). Thanks for posting the videos, that other video/truck, I think its titled something like Mamba, S8, idk but, damn thats fast, you pass so close to yourself😁 thanks again EDIT, looking at the pass under the hood a couple more times I see its not the TVP's that are thick, its the bars you have going front to rear, are they stock? The way or where I paused at while writing this, it looked like the bar was the top edge of the TVP.
@mvtepixels
@mvtepixels 3 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for your comment. The TVP's are stock, and yes, i have tower to tower bars, they're made out of 8x8mm aluminum pipe. On big jumps the shock towers have the tendency to bend a lot, those bars prevent that. I got rid of the HPI gear box that comes with all the Savage's, and installed a center diff (Alza racing center diff kit). I don't have a radio box. If you have a Castle ESC you can change the BEC voltage, the easiest way is to use the Castle Link program on your PC. I'm using 7.4V if I'm not mistaken. My two Savage's are far from being stock. To do what you see in my videos I had to go above and beyond with the modifications, otherwise I would spend more time fixing them instead of driving them and having fun... The Savage is a great platform, but in stock form it's impossible to drive it like I do without having a lot of problems👍

@@hansd-uu9nw I haven't tried the A720, they're better than the original ones, but I know people who have them, and they say it's not worth the money. Okay, I finally subbed. I see you went back to the stock battery layout. I just finshed building my second XL Flux using almost every available Alza Racing option part. I've installed a Max6/4985 combo and it's obviously way more powerful and smoother than my Flux XL V2. I also installed the HPI battery boxes on my Alza Flux and on my first bash, I snapped one of the battery boxes! I suspected that would happen when doing big jumps. I just got finshed building 2 custom battery trays and we'll see how those hold up. I have these trucks down to a science in terms of what I expect to break and when. The biggest weak point I have, after ditching the aluminum shock towers, is the 2.5mm pins used at the wheel hubs. Those bend/break after hardbashing every 4 runs or so. I simply check them after 4 runs and if they are already bent, I change them because that means they will snap the next run. My Flux V2 has an ESC issue where it cuts off and I keep eating pinions. I may swap out the power system. If Alza releases a CD kit mount for the V2 Flux, I may jump on that too.
@mvtepixels
@mvtepixels Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Having the batteries between TVP's makes working on the car a lot harder, this way I have better access to everything. Those battery boxes are not suitable for big jumps, I'm using them on the new build because it's just a speed basher, I won't be doing jumps with this one... Never broke a pin, are you using the new XL V2 extended hubs or the old ones with m5 nuts? I think the pinions that come installed on the Flux aren't hardened steel, I had the same problem, now I only use Tekno M5 Pinions, very good stuff. What I've learned these past months is that it's hard to have a savage you can jump and speed bash at the same time... My next build will be a Savage just for jumps, lightweight wheels, 2200kv motor, won't run more than 4S, and it will be around 5.5 kg... this Castle setup I run in this video is killer, but the car is around 6.5 kg, way too much for jumps...
@lipoz-n-nitroz4012
@lipoz-n-nitroz4012 Жыл бұрын
@@mvtepixels Well, on my Flux V2, it's mostly stock and I still bend/snap the hub pins after some time. On my Alza build, I'm using the GTXL-1 Flux driveline so I guess you can say it's the old setup on that one. Both versions still use the 2.5x17mm pins at the hubs so it makes no difference. Wish those were 3mm or bigger. I haven't tried Tekno pinions but will do once I go through my stash of pinions 👍. Other than those minor things, the trucks are very durable, at the end of the day everything can and will break on RCs. Is the Flux V2 worth paying the $700? That's very debatable. I actually purchased mune when it was the higher price!
@mvtepixels
@mvtepixels Жыл бұрын
@@lipoz-n-nitroz4012 I believe the pins will last longer on the V2 hubs... yes, everything breaks, but if you get the best compromise between weight and strength those trucks will last a lot longer. The new V2 is not worth at all, out of the box this truck is not reliable on the long term, to make it reliable you need to get the machined diffs, get better wheels, servo, better ESC, the motor it's also not ideal... a better pinion, the center gear box is completely outdated, shock towers will bend on jumps, I could go on with the list... it's cheaper to buy a used savage and make the upgrades in my opinion
@lipoz-n-nitroz4012
@lipoz-n-nitroz4012 Жыл бұрын
@@mvtepixels Like I wrote, I'm getting 4 to 5 battery packs (6s) before my XL Flux V2 wheel pins either bend or snap. I agree, out of the box, the V2 Flux isn't worth it. I actually did most of those upgrades before I even ran my V2 XL. I installed the hardened steel sun/planet gears in the diffs, upgraded the servo, the stock tires are garbage on 6s, the ESC is giving me issues yet the motor is fine. I do have DIY 40mm fans on the ESC and motor and that helps a ton with cooling.

I'm finally building an Alza based Savage but my question to you is: How do you keep the M3 shock mounting screws from bending/shearing? On my other Savages, those M3 screws bend so fast on harder bashing. I have yet to find a solution but you bash harder than I do and I don't see yours breaking or bending. I use aluminum shock tower BTW and your tower to tower braces probably have the same effect.
@mvtepixels

Mine bend too, once in a while I have to straighten them up, but never broke one. The solution would be to enlarge the holes to fit m4 screws, or find m3 hardened steel ones...
