If you are in a smaller boat, there are a couple reefs you can reach. Take a look on google maps satellite view and the textured areas should be rocky. Also, navionics has a pretty good free web version that will show some of the reefs. There should be one directly south of the harbor and one south of mitchells cove. I think people have had good luck with halis right outside the harbor too. tight lines!

I have: bolt head -> hard rubber washer -> metal washer -> neoprene washer -> hull. Mind doesn't leak at all anymore! Hopefully that helps

I think that is what I used. The mounting bracket has a tightening screw, so it doesn't have to be perfect

@@OffTheHookFishing I suggested buying some dustoff - and freezing the screw to hopefully retract the metal from the thread. Otherwise i think going to have to drill out/ dremel the thing out. . ..

To be honest, since I mostly ocean fish, the conditions are almost always too choppy to stand. You are able to stand, but it's not the most stable since the floor flexes. On a calm day it would be ok, but if there is wind or a swell, I'd reccomend sitting.

@@idforpublic879 yep, I just lay mine flat. Never had any issues with the prop. Most of the weight sits on the cowling.

The ocean does weird things. That day there was a spot just outside the harbor where waves were crashing. Always gotta keep a lookout for that sort of thing.

It should be, but the newer transom are different. My motor didn't sit fully on the aluminum, so I had to make the add on.

The swivel seat is definitely easier on the back. I liked my canoe seat because it was so easy to transport, but I can't deny the swivel is nicer. Whether or not it's worth the money is pretty subjective. It does take up a fair bit of room to transport. Could always look to DIY a generic swivel seat if you wanted.

I've seen a lot of ideas online to help extend the life. Some people use flex tape I think. Take a look at the "portabote fanclub" Facebook page

Well, sometimes. The CDFW has been restricting us to hoop nets to mitigate whale entanglement. But, usually we are allowed to use up to 10 traps.

@@OffTheHookFishing My dad and I had real good luck in Puget Sound, Washington with crab traps that don't allow the crabs to leave. They had one way doors. I'm not sure how they impact whales more, but I remember some places requiring those hoop nets because if left on the sea floor they are less impactful. Anyway, one thing we learned is that yes, less current is important and finding the right depth was key. We found that 45ft was a sweet spot. We used turkey legs because they were cheap. It's always funny when the money you spend on bait ends up being more than it would be to buy the amount of crab you catch at the store.

Me again. I just ordered a new Suzuki 6 HP. My sticker inside the boat says 56 lbs is the max weight for motor and the Suzuki weighs 52 lbs. Do you think that will be okay for my 10’. Oh and the year of my Bote is 2013. I really appreciate your channel and answering my questions!

@chuckzander9861 well the only real way to know is to try, but I think you should be fine. My motor weighs about the same, but on a 12 foot. Just try and balance the weight by putting other gear in the bow.

I have accidentally left it down many times and never noticed any bending. Although, there are probably cheaper clamps that you could use if you didn't want it to raise/lower.

@anthonylogan4481 I think most people fish the reef in front of natural bridges state beach. You can see where the reef starts on Google maps. The sand just outside the harbor might be good for halis this time of year too. Tight lines!

@@OffTheHookFishing In the '80's, I used to use Silver Fox or Alaska Marine.

When in the bay, I typically just fish a mile or so offshore. When on the ocean side, maybe 2-3 miles depending on what I'm fishing for.

@@curtbennett8402 Just start small, maybe try a protected bay. Weather is king, so look for light winds (ideally less than 10mph), low swells/long intervals, and low tidal swings to avoid current. I have a VHF radio that allows for communication with other boaters (typically channel 68/69) and the coast guard (channel 16). Just take it slow and you'll be ok! Find a fishing buddy with a kayak or small boat if possible!
