Just follow basic rules Never trust any other vehicle on the road Don’t accelerate hard mid or 2 thirds into a corner, only give it when you are on the exit straight line. Don’t brake suddenly , always gently squeeze the brakes then apply harder pressure , including emergency stops else you slide front wheel and or lock or buck the back wheel . Don’t learn to wheelie without traction control on . Learn to ride first . Go the pace you are comfortable with , don’t crash because you wanted to keep up with other bikes , or look slow in front of motorists , who cares your first crash could hurt you or kill you , better looking like a learner than end up in hospital ….the other riders /drivers couldn’t give a fig and won’t visit you . Practice for hours in a deserted parking lot , mastering your accelerator , brakes and clutch operation . Practice emergency braking . Read up watch , you tube videos on correct emergency braking , trail braking and normal braking procedures. Never take your eyes off an upcoming corner once you are near the corner , you can look through it towards the apex and exit point and to the next corner , don’t look in your rear mirror before a corner😮 Wear light colours , espescially in the rain , imagine black helmet , black jacket , black pants , the bitumen is black , the clouds are grey black …you can become invisible to all the distracted car drivers . Learn how to stop on hills and know how to use the front brake to hold your bike on a hill , if you can’t reach the rear brake due to camber of hill. Its tricky you have to give a fair measure of accelerator and clutch on a steep incline to get going again . Always concentrate 100 per cent on your ride, don’t ride if you are upset , angry , or intoxicated . Good luck there are heaps of other things to learn .

Great riding style brother. Loved the video. Great commentary too. Then you have the guy crossing the yellow to blindly going into a turn on the inside of a corner. Makes zero sense.

Yes, the bike is still in the break in period. After 600 miles the oild has to be changed and it will stop blinking.

Why? No point taking a thing that intinidates you: you won't master it. Start from the bike you're comfortable with then learn from there. I would get z900 after 30-40k miles riding sub-600 bikes. It's just too powerful to make use of and no point getting a bike if you can't utilise it.

I went from a 125 to this, omg, I was just like you getting use to the bike when I picked it up. I got them to put it in 55% power mode and went Rain mode steadily home….two months later…my knees scraping on corners, I use full power mode and Sport most times now. Hope you still got the bike and enjoy it. 👍

So privilege that my guys in colder-climate countries can idle the bike or ride the bike very slow in a tight parking lot, in where I say where the temperature is often reach more than 32 deg.cel. (89F), I have to immediately go to a bigger & longer road which is rarely used by other vehicles in order to reach at least 70km/h (43.4mph) to keep the engine cool. Have to be extra2 careful to be a beginner for a 600+ cc bikes.

2:35 its because you are shifting gears up when you don't have to . you can easily ride in 50-60kmph speed on second gear just like this shit the the gear when you are on the high speed of that particular gear, not the peak but atleast at average speed of that gear. practice will teach you this

Me having to start on a 125 and had to do 2 very strict tests to get my license... Dutch rules are way to strict, but that you can ride everything in america with a permit is just stupid. Nothing against you ofc, doing very good for such short experience.

Not bad for a first ride. Nothing wrong with riding on the parking lot for the first 10 minutes. Always good to get a feel for the bike first. Doesn't matter if that takes you 1 minute or 1 hour. Safety first.

Good vid, you've learned pretty good but a good advice from me as a advanced rider, never stop in the middle of lane so you can have an escape route in case a vehicle is not paying attention to the road ahead, always when at a stop you need to go to the left or right from the same lane. Also it'll be good if you take the mfs course, that'll help you a lot more on your riding skills even though you riding pretty good for just a few hours of riding. Have fun and ride safe brother and welcome to the riders family.

I been riding a 2023 Z900 SE for about a year. It is my fifth bike. So easy to ride, and I've often thought it would be OK for a beginner, because the seat is quite low and everything is smooth and easy. Looks to me that your clumsiness at first was just lack of familiarity wih bikes in general: not because of lots of power. Anyway, it was satisfying to see you get started on a bike you will not outgrow in 3 months, or ever. Thanks for posting this!

Hey rider, congrats on your new bike. I'm also getting the same exact 1 like yours. You did pretty good for just starting to ride, just take your time and lots of practice. Always remember to always look where you going in order the bike will go where you look. Also when stopping at a light or stop sign always stop on right or left side of lane so you can have a see an escape route. I started riding about 30 years ago but stopped about 5 or 6 years when my kids were babies and started again about 2 years ago. I rode mini bike to 600cc bikes back then and about 2 years ago I bought a '21 Z400 and now I'm looking at a bike that is exactly the same as yours. About the mfs course don't worry much that you didn't pass it, not everyone passes on the first try. I also took the course and failed it the first time and took again about 6 months after and passed it, and in those waiting months I rode my bike, I also rode it way before I got my permit. Anyway, ride safe and have fun and always dress for the slide and not for the ride.
