A great tutorial. Really shows it's age. It just feels less pressured and less like a commercial. I wish he would have had less slack on his retrieve in the drifting river scenes. Very good at sparking interest in fly fishing for pike/bass/panfish.

My 1978 9th grade Biology and fishing club teacher played this as a science class lesson. It was TU's mission to educate on catch and release and it worked for me as I also took up flyfishing and tying that same year. What a splendid production and videography!

How do you do that on the front of a flats skiff without rocking the boat?
@ScientificAnglers2 ай бұрын
The primary motion should be in your upper body which will not cause much rocking.

Amazing vintage vid. He was ahead of his time. Even basic euro nymphing techniques he already applied. Forwarded it to other (beginner) fly fishers and they love it too. The simplicity of the flies he is using shows there is no need too overcomplicating tying, as these are patterns that a novice tier can apply. Kuddo's 👍

Hi! I've fished since I was a kid but always wanted to find out what the breaking strain of various line weights is. For example, how much weight will it take before, say, an average 6 weight or 10 weight line snaps? Why I'm asking is because I never wanted to test it out myself, obviously, seeing as they cost an arm and a leg. Looking forward to your response ~ thanks for your kind consideration.
@zeph64394 ай бұрын
It's Ok, I googled it up - thanks anyway. Strength -- all line cores are built to be much stronger than the heaviest leader tippets that are likely to be used with them. For example: a 2 or 3 weight line will normally break at about 20 lbs.; standard 4 to 8 weight line are around 30-pound test, a heavy saltwater line core may test over 75 lbs.
@ScientificAnglers4 ай бұрын
Hey great question but also difficult since we use a number of different core materials which will vary in strength between lighter weight lines and heavy weight lines. There isn't a direct correlation between line weight and breaking weight on a fly line.
@zeph64394 ай бұрын
@@ScientificAnglers I see - the reason I'm asking is that I have a T20 sinking line and want to attach it to a length of cannibalized 9 weight line which was damaged near the forward taper. I want to use the thinner running line and make up my own shooting head as it were, and wanted to get an idea of whether the idea was viable, seeing as one of my target species is albacore. Thanks for getting back to me!

A lot of KZbin flyfishers have videos with zero commentary; they don't even want you to know where they are fishing for fear you might want go there too. I push the stop button on those videos. Totally boring. Some KZbin flyfishers think it's all about them. Not quite, it's all about the sport and the folklore of flyfishing for steelhead.
