These AA/FC's were the best ! I'd rather watch these any day than modern cars. Really pathetic how weak willed nhra became. Now it's 1000' racing instead of 1/4 mile ? Bite me. I live 40 minutes from Pomona raceway and haven't gone to a race there in at least 15.years.

Thanks for watching and liking my videos. I'm all for safety. but they have used it in so many ways in our sports. It's destroyed the sports we loved.

Great video. "Have your tires hotter than theirs" strategy is well documented here. Didn't always make a win, but fun to pay attention to. Thanks for the memories!

Think I started going there in 78. What a great track. Saw Don Garlits run 3 times, Don Prudhomme twice, Al Segrini, Tom Hoover. John Force twice, once in his Coca-Cola Corvette and again in a Mounain Dew Citation. Great times.

Growing up in Gary as a kid in the 70s, racing was what many adults always talked about. I lived in the downtown Gary area in the early 80s...those cars were so loud it sounded like they were a block away, but they were actually 7 or 8 miles away. I loved it!💚🙌

I remember staying out on Sunday afternoon long after the pros went home when the light was getting dim and they would allow you to run and get a slip. Not my car. 57 Chevy convertible, 283 automatic, hydraulic lifters, single 2 barrel, with a lift motor for the top that weighed over 300 lbs. But it was pretty, fire engine red with bucket seats. Never forget that smell of burning rubber, fuel and early evening mist. Also blown engines, tow truck scavengers and crushed dreams.

@@saddletramp6935 Yep, I knew of that US 30 when I was younger. The US 30 that was here in Indiana was also an AHRA track for many years. It's still has the AHRA emblem painted on the track but it's fading away.

These cars were so much cooler than the current butt ugly big show cars. I live 40 minutes from pomona raceway and haven't gone to a race there in 20 years. Nhra destroyed the fuel classes ! I'd go see these true 70's FC's in a heartbeat !!

You have taken me back home to Chicago, same time period, the fun I had with my Dad and brother, going to US-30, during the summers, listening to the cool commercials on WLS Radio, riding in our Dad's 1971 Chevrolet Impala, then getting to US-30, climbing the bleachers to the top row ( my Dad liked the other side), waiting for the final runs, after spending our $1 each at the concessions, and, my brother buying the logo stickers, what pleasant memories! Thanks!!!!!
