It is worth mentioning: While Jinx did shoot the council at the exact moment they decided to agree on peace with Zaun, her doing that isn't what threw that possibility out the window. Silco would never have given them Jinx, there would never have been peace regardless. Vander: Gave up on the dream of Zaun, he did so for the sake of his daughters, and gave up fighting. Silco: Gave up on on the dream of Zaun, for the sake of his daughter, and would have chose to keep fighting.

There is a thing about the Hexcore. The more blood Viktor gave to it, the more 'fleshy' looking it was becoming. Not only that, but the way it was animated and behaved also was changing, it _grabbing_ and pulling Viktor closer by the hand to feed on his blood, being visibly excited/hungry for it, pretty much burping after eating Sky, trying to move away from Viktor and shaking when the latter was trying to destroy it. The shot wasn't showing the Hexcore 'calling' Viktor, and more so showing that it was afraid, like a living creature. And then, when Viktor dropped the stool... it punished him. It hurt him and it made his leg weak again (notice Viktor is using his crutch again). Basically it said 'I giveth and I taketh away'. So it's implied that there is a possibility Viktor wouldn't just not be able to bring himself to destroy it, he might physically be unable to since he's connected to it.

Sugarcane/sorghum used to make molasses is usually harvested in September (at least in colder climates) the sugar products are then produced and sold starting in October and November. I live near a sorghum field, and every September we have a sorghum fest, so I've always associated it with fall.

im sure someone somewhere has already commented this, but arcane is loosely based on the us system, but also the french system as well, since fortiche is based in france also no one inherently in this series is solely good or bad except a short few, but most are coming from the same place different experiences, fortiche specifically hand paints their models as well as pay attention to such detail to truly create a world of life & truth, the style they aimed for was grimsical, grim + whimsical, which essentially our worlds ugly truth just in a different way/experience/style i love seeing you being able to breakdown a lot of this in realtime & after an episode & mainly understand the flow of where things are headed, so intuitive, i love this series with my whole being, & love almost everything about it, its nice seeing others who are just as passionate right out of the gate & in realtime, really awesome & human

Just one small advice. You don't have to use level-ups right away. Taking a level-up in a skill unlocks all 'white checks' of the same kind. It's also possible to collect several level-ups and use them later to go through a particularly hard white check.

Over the garden wall requires a bit of very old American cultural history to get all of the references. School town follies is a love letter to old films/serials such as Our Gang/little rascals and Shirley temple films. Pottsfield is a reference to a ‘potter’s field’ - graves for the poor who could not afford a grave in a church yard/cemetery . The song sung in pottsfield is an old style of singing music called shaped note singing. The inn is a reference to the old book Pilgrims Progress as everyone goes by their profession rather than name. As well as a reference to Betty Boop with the inn lady’s song.

S2 was always the plan, this may have been a great ending (and it truly is) but it isn't the usual case of a last-minute change of plans like it so commonly happens in TV. I do think it's an interesting perspective, that a cliffhanger _can_ indeed be a better ending than a "typical" ending. Though I do disagree mostly because most of the character arcs are (in my opinion) incomplete without S2.

They can say it was always meant to be 2 seasons but I'm not convinced. The Riot CEO's anecdote about playing with Christian's feelings before telling him they'd get funded for multiple seasons in Bridging the Rift sounded to me like more than 2. We've been gaslit :-/ My fave series endings before I saw the scribbled happy face were the old Twin Peaks and Space Above and Beyond. Both end with a baaad future for the heroes. Done too often it would lose its gusto but the rare ones done well stick with me for life. Not unhappy with what we got in the end, just miss losing something special. Funny side note: I googled season 1 before watching it and back then the first hit said the show was 10 episodes, so I watched that thinking there was more until the Netflix recommends screen came up. I was amazed by the writers' audacity.

@@quigsthevicious I guess we'll never really know, but there's a moment where they visit the writer's room and they are discussing the Season 2 finale (obviously with the spoilers edited out). In particular, they were discussing how they'd bring _you-know-who_ back down to earth during the climax of the story. That gives me confidence that it was planned to be this way for a long time. I appreciate the honest input, you definitely gave me something to think about as far as endings are concerned. Maybe theres a few endings to which I haven't given enough appreciation. I usually favor bold moves in writing, but for some reason I've been excluding endings from that.

Kudos on your analysis of Jinx wanting to "become Powder" again, but that never being an option. Powder is there, within her, buried under years of experiences that happened in the time since. You can't strip that away, and frankly you wouldn't want to; that way lies personality death, and who comes out would be a new person... not even really the same as they were, because the body and their situation is different, which means the "new person" would immediately diverge. I think Jinx realises that. A lot of people see Jinx after Silco dies as "Powder is dead, Jinx killed her". I think Jinx grew up, and realised that she can't return to the past and has to stick with the part of time that she can have an impact on... and that Powder was just as "alive" or "dead" as she was before. Jinx just understands it in a moment of clarity. I also think that, as you say, her shooting Silco isn't a "choice" as such, it's a reflex action. My sense of it is that she lashes out at "the thing that will deprive her of the time to pull herself together". If Vi had been the threat to the stalemate, I think she would have fired at her, instead. Also: un-kudos regarding "what kind of ending of the season is that?!" Don't cry, s1 of Arcane's ending, you're perfect.

As a huge Viktor/Jayce Fan (#jayvik) I always sob during the runng scene. Not only was this probably his first time ever to run freely, but also he was able to outrun the boats in the harbour... In his childhood scene in Ep 06 e wasn't able to catch with his toy boat. I insanely love these metaphors Arcane is constantly tossing into ours faces. :D Oh and in the scene where he wasn't able to destroy the hexcore and fell to the ground in pain, I think the arcane took away it's power willingly from his leg like it was a sentient being. 🥲Can't wait for your S02 reactions. Haven't finished the video entiirely yet, but I like and appreciate the summary. However: I do not entirely agree with your take on Silco, Zaun, and Vi. I feel that you are too easily dismissing a perspective and taking for granted that Silco is a problem, or THE problem, in the relation. Silco did not rule Zaun and run it into the ground, turning it into a toxic waste pit/ghetto. Stopping Silco will not improve anything, because the underlying situation that gave rise to Silco are still there, and getting worse. I can understand the perspective of wishing to avoid war, but sometimes, war isn't the worse option - for Zaun, staying oppressed has a higher cost than attempting to achieve some kind of self determination, because it clearly has been generations, lifetimes, since the situation became intolerable - in episode one, Powder was consoling herself in the warzone by singing a BEGGING SONG about her home being subservient and lesser than Piltover. Sure, Silco is a criminal. By definition, all revolutionaries are, and revolutions aren't free. You need resources from SOMEWHERE. Also: Vi doesn't have good ideas. Vi has heart, and is wrong. That is her entire character arc: seeing problems, and choosing the wrong way to deal with each one. That's not to say I don't like her; I think she's awesome. A very cool, credible character. But she is also a hustler and a thug, because she's had little chance to learn to be anything else. She punches things and she fast-talks people to get them to help her run straight at every obstacle and punching it as hard as she can. At the point of the video I'm at, you haven't reached that point yet, but the example you used about her "having a good idea" and "being right", namely that Silco wants to destroy them and can't be reasoned with will soon be proven exactly wrong - Silco comes to the negotiation table the first invitation he gets, and he has clear demands that easily prove that his intention is actually independence for Zaun. After all, if all he wanted was to enrich himself and entrench his power, he would have demanded a seat on the council and trade concessions for his faction, not free trade routes and blanket amnesty for EVERYONE. I hate the trope of the noble, just and virtuous rebels. Rebellion is a nasty, desperate business that rarely if ever succeeds without significant, nasty compromises, staining your conscience and hurting innocents is par for the course... yet Zaun needs to revolt and is amply justified in doing so. Vander's alternative would have been a slow, eternal death in the poisoned hellscape-ghetto with great community spirit - but if you wish to change the societal order, then it is counterproductive to stabilize and support the status quo. What will cause more pain and misery - an eternity of unchanging subservience in the cancer swamp, or taking the gamble for something better?
@TterminusS
@TterminusS 10 күн бұрын
i think Silco wasnt wrong about revolting, but shimmer made Zaun worse and he flooded the lanes with it. All he created was more addicts and victims In Vanders case there was stability. His solution was clearly not working either. Also I think Vi has good ideas, clever ideas. Doesn't mean her ideas lead to the outcomes everyone wants (or even she intended).
@th3voice
@th3voice 9 күн бұрын
@@TterminusS Fair, but now consider the alternatives available. The first scene in the series shows that Zaun has tried open revolt before, and it clearly resulted in job lot style casualties (among them Vi and Powder's mom/parents). Apart from Vander losing people he cared about and felt responsible for, people with mining equipment going up against a professional paramilitary force with more high-tech equipment is a losing proposition. At that point, the situation was already intolerable. Vander kept communications open with Grayson, and collaborated with the Piltover occupying force. That resulted in a Zaun where children go on raids to Piltover to steal, and fight each other over a backpack full of scrap materials, and where police stomp around throwing people through windows for daring to soil their boots with a little saliva. Now, Silco takes over. The power differential was already extreme, and now he is rapidly becoming aware that there's a new, shiny blue tech that further skews the power imbalance. He can't gain a significant edge through trade, because Piltover has more resources and can simply take any business venture that grows successful enough. A colony of miners with lung cancer is also not going to edge out Piltover in terms of technological advancement. But revolution costs money. You need to be able to feed and shelter people, bring them in line, arm them, make them a threat serious enough to be considered. Shimmer is literally PERFECT for this: one, the ingredients are seemingly available in Zaun but probably nowhere else (those flowers kid Viktor brought surely have something to do with it). It gives the average Zaunite exactly what they want in life - the strength to at least ATTEMPT to change their circumstances. It doesn't seem particularly euphoric, it's much more insidious than that - it makes you strong and fast, makes you heal, enables you to survive until tomorrow. That's quite the drug. Also, given its spread and use among the populace, it makes Zaun harder to control for the Enforcers, since any teenager on the street could down a vial of it and rip a squad apart, reducing Piltover's ability to project its power INTO Zaun. It consolidates wealth and power, being a weapon and a resource all in one. And it's the perfect weapon for people with nothing to lose. People in Piltover wouldn't want to use something like that... they have homes, families, safety, connections. They have a society that takes care of them. Why would they use something that makes you a raging monster and heals the injuries you don't have to begin with? But people in Zaun, scrounging for scraps? Sure, it may give you tumorous lumps on your forehead later, but that's not really a concern if you're starving and dying RIGHT NOW. Shimmer was the only option that had any chance at independence excepting a random, external event throwing everything out of whack, and even then, that's more likely to pan out for Zaun if Piltover has little chance at actually maintaining control should chaos break out. For Zaun, I don't see any way OUT of the intolerable situation that existed in act one that doesn't go through something awful, because the only resource they can use to build a power base is the short, miserable (and therefore cheap) lives of their citizens, and for that, shimmer is a superb force multiplier. Additionally - several people in the show (Sevika for one, Vi another) show that you absolutely CAN use shimmer to some extent and retain sanity and relative health. Providing the society with shimmer is not a moral good, certainly, but I don't see any even remotely viable path forward for the revolt that doesn't involve some degree of sacrifice, and at least there is a POTENTIAL that at some point, one will stop having to sacrifice more, that it MIGHT end. I still say that's a better path. I'm also quite sure that if Silco had found a better, more stable and sustainable path to the power required to stand off Piltover, he would have seized it with both hands and his crooked teeth. If "be a nice guy and build schools and orphanages" was the path to independence, there would have been a schoolhouse/orphanage in every third building in Zaun. Making Zaun worse was an inevitable step in any plan aiming to make Zaun better. The alternative was to NOT TRY, and if Silco hadn't tried, someone else (Sevika?) would have.
@Flickermaus
@Flickermaus 13 сағат бұрын
100% agree with you Objectively, shimmer isn't great, and from Piltovers' perspective, there are no benefits to its existence.... but I think that in a society riddled with disease and chronic illness, there is likely a large facet of that society that primarily depends on shimmer for medicinal reasons. As we saw when Vi got injured, there is precious little alternative for them as far as treatments go, and in the face of prolonged suffering or death, I would think the average person in need of medical care that was desperate enough, would probably rather take a chance on the potential side effects than to wait it out knowing the alternative. It would be easy to overlook this aspect of it as a top sider that's had the privilege of advanced medical care that they've never had to make huge personal sacrifices to access, and even easier to vilify those that have actually had to make the hard choices. It's just... never ever just black and white with this show lol

In the dinner scene Jinx tests everybody. Starting she tests Vi to see If Vi thinks Jinx is crazy enough to kill caitlyn and make her a "snack", and the answer is Yes Vi does think that. Next she tests Vi to see if she can accept jinx, even trying to force her to do so because Jinx knows Vi wouldn't shoot caitlyn. Vi can't accept Jinx. Next comes Silcos test if I look like I'm going to leave with Vi will you betray me. Silco pushes back against the idea of Jinx leaving but reasures her that he won't forsake her. Finnally there is Caitlyn who jinx tests. Jinx is fast enough that she could have shot caitlyn before Caitlyn could react, the test is do you love Vi enough to not shoot her sister if she looks like she is going to shoot you. Caitlyn responds with the affirmitive. Caitlyns second test is will you shoot Vi's sister if she is unarmed. When Jinx puts the gun down everything about caitlyns actions respond with a yes. In the end the only one who gave Jinx the "correct" answer was Silco which makes it doubly painfull for her when she kills him, and as a final act to honor his passing she carry's out what she beleives silco's will would be. They can all burn. We'll show them. We will show them all.

3:18:32 there were no citizens on that bridge, save for ekko, Vi, and arguably Caitlyn all of whom made it out (mostly) unscathed. The enforcers had blocked off the bridge and (topsiders were too afraid to cross) + it was the middle of the night. Ever since episode 3 all of jinx's explosives have been carefully calculated with specific targets in mind, in episode 4 she is able to blow up the two goons who come into the basement of the ship without so much as a scratch on her, later in that episode she blows up an academy building and six enforcers, but there were no other people running away from or towards the fire or trapped inside. her firelight explosives target and land on enforcer weapons and are specific with their esplosives in such a way that caitlyn who is much closer to the blast than marcus, comes away with only a small amount of shrapnel that doesn't even require a doctor to fix up, just a dad and some tweasers. Hope this doesn't come off as agressive, just feel its worth the correction.

In episode 3 she could be refering to powder who killed her family, silco who took her in, or herself who hit powder. From episode 7 I think she could be refering to jinx herself.
