It's still forgotten, as far as Dallas is concerned.

I have to agree, that some of us that have left Ellum thicket still have a footprint in the community. That would totally describe my brother and myself. We were born and raised in the community, now living in California. There are many Texans in California as a matter of fact.

My parents have lived in the Kleberg neighborhood Far Southeast Dallas neighborhood since 1988.They have lived in two different areas in Kleberg but it's labeled a urban section of Dallas and it's crowded now with people everywhere mainly Hispanics and blacks and a little bit of white people. Its turning into the Pleasant Grove neighborhood bit by bit. There is crime, homeless, prostitution, drug infested, people hanging out in front of stores,it's crazy I can certainly hope that it don't turn into Pleasant Grove but the fact is that it's already having that Grove attitude.

You must haven't looked at the stats. Mexicans, whites, then blacks. Further, when it was mostly white, there were problems in the trailer parks, pedop#iles, meth heads, ski# heads etc. At least the blacks came in building up the neighborhood by building and buying homes vs 80 % of the whites being in dilapidated trailer park homes.

I miss your laugh, the way your eyes crinkle up when you smile. The way our history goes so far back that it seems unreal to most people it's something special how we kept our own account of records. Now its something even more precious because these histories are only needed to todays people but not just anyone just know them. Just hearing them again it almost sounds like a secret we remember.

You're an idiot. You have no concept of what a community or "village" should consist of. People like you are the reason why there is still division between races. You should live by the laws of unconditional love. Without that you you will never find freedom. A selfless heart always wins the battle.

I agree with you Maggie and its true la raza has always pretty much just kept to themselves. And yes your barrio is important to you and it should be. I am from Ledbetter and I feel that all Hispanic barrios in west dallas should joint together and become a movement that will not let America forget that we existed and still do even if you no longer live in west Dallas the history must be told so that it can live on.
