Great review on the newly released Dapol 68, John. The black lines on the body side panels are correct so a welcome improvement. The fade on the dark blue on the cabside is, as you pointed out in the video, incorrect. The other livery issue is the turquoise colour at the front of the cab (and above the dark blue) which is too light. This was incorrect on the original model and has not been corrected on the new model. (I have good photos to illustrate these points but unfortunately KZbin doesn't offer an option to add attachments).

@@stuartblack6604 I love the black edging lines, makes the model look more impressive...but that dark blue section is awful...even the earlier versions are not right, and I agree also the lighter blue sections are to light....I can live with that, but the dark Blue areas really stick out...I have emailed Dapol sales for comment as just how many TPE 68s in this new batch have gone out looking like this?? Thank you for your comments 🙏

Hi John . Lovely model .I dont think droopy hooks would be an issue for many as some modelers will change them anyway for Hunt or Kadees as in my case. Sadly a different era for me as I am stuck in the late 80s and early 90s .

@@MarkHorsley-pk6vj I love the black lining, really makes the model stand out, again a stunning model, super smooth, no noise..BUT...that livery boo boo, really spoils it...esp as I have 8 others...and if they are in the stabling sidings together, it looks like a pimple on a Babies arse...why can't Dapol get these 68s correct? Missing handrails, DRS Compass livery wrong...and now new 2 TPE 68s incorrectly liveried...I'm sure once they see this issue...maybe they will offer revised bodysells...I'd like to think so...hope you had a good holibobs and all is well Sir..

Hi, I found your site today while browsing TMDs on You Tube. I'm from Norwich too and guess what, my layout is DC as well! I wanted to put a TMD on my layout and I don't have a large area to build it on so I was looking for ideas mainly. Already you've given me a few and I've subscribed to your channel. I once had a great big garden spider invade my layout. I had made a forest area and that's where he would hide. A passing loco would always bring him out - probably the vibrations made him thin his dinner was out there waiting to be caught. I don't see him these days but he never did any harm so I let him be. Great layout.

I used meths on cloth for the last 20 years, don't like track rubbers that damage rail head and leave bits. Alas due to peripheral neuropathy (painful numbness and lack of any feeling in hands) I no longer can clean track manually. I heard about Inox MX3 years ago from the crazy Australian fella and recently other uTubers. Six months ago I couldn't manually clean track so as I had a CMX track cleaning wagon I bought some Inox MX3 and used it on CMX wagon pads and it works great, I have not cleaned track manually for six months, I use the CMX and Inox every 3 or 4 days to clean track as I run my locos every day. I am DC analogue only I have inclines to upper level and have never had a slipping problem. I do find I have clean Hornby insulating points manually with IPA and cotton bud (which I can just manage) occasionally for lack of point blades contact. I have a large layout 18'x18'x18'x18' around loft. Inox MX3 has been a God send to me without it I don't know how I would be able to clean my track? Bill.

No ox and mx3 are not track cleaners they seal track after cleaning, this stops oxidation. But with both these you can’t have traction tyres as it degrades the rubber traction tyres. In addition can cause issues on inclines. There are polar and non polar cleaners plenty of videos on KZbin about these cleaners

I have an old HO American Bachmann box van with the felt looping pad on the bottom. I soak it with meths and run it around my 3 loops, this cleans brilliantly. I use cotton wool buds dipped in meths for all the point work. Dee Dar Jnc (DCC) runs perfectly, even my class 08. I clean loco wheels with meths n cotton wool buds. Used this method over 40 years ,if it works why change it.

I use a small wooden block (about the size of the track rubbers) with a cloth wrapped round and dabbed with methylated spirits to get the track clean and then the No-ox grease. The No-ox works really well especially on the point blades.

I love this and I couldn't agree more regarding rivet counters. I did some railway modelling some years back and I specifically decided to model Irish railways with Irish locomotives and stock. I posted a video of it on line and literally the very first comment was from a guy telling me that while I had a very realistic and prototypical Irish railway, he noted that I had two locomotives that shouldn't be on the layout at the same time because they're from slightly different eras. I explained to him that I really didn't give a f*** as it's my 5 year old son who decides what trains we run and if it's really that upsetting to see a 1980s loco alongside a 1970s one on a prototypical Irish railway, then you're really going to freak out when you see us running British trains on it 🙂 ....... By the way, I just came across your channel love your content. Keep it up 👍

Sir, this is my first visit to your KZbin post. You are right rivet counters do spoil it for everyone because manufacturers are trying to keep up with this criticism and make every model perfect. The result is cost and because the costs go up this results in the young being put off and the hobby dying on its feet. I'm sure if they could see the big picture they might just think again before being quite so critical of someone's own interpretation of a scene in their own mind.

I absolutely love your landscaping and details. It is a treat to watch. I use Setrack wherever I can, it saves me time, and works just as well. When I play around with the trains (yes, PLAY) I never really think about the track and point work anyway, as I immerse myself into operating the layout. Keep up the good work. Greetings from Denmark.

Totally agree with you on your little rant about rivet counters. Personally I have, as yet, not had any comments of the sort you talk about, but friends have. It's your layout, you built it, so do what you wish with it. I would delete the comment and then block that account. Some hate my Innocent Tales of Piddle Folk channel, it's for fun only, if you don't like it, stop watching it and stay away. Unfortunately some people just love to be complete arseholes because they are jealous. Chin Up and delete them.
