So I feel like I need to stay away from humans for some time. The reason is I am feeling that I am just copying lines at this point. This is especially true when it comes to muscles and curves. I simply don't understand why are the curves there (except for couple arm and shoulder muscles). Instead I would try to get better at colors\forms\textures.

whooaaaaaaa... "clipping groups"? "Mask layers"? This is above my comprehension.... One technique I like to do is duplicate a solid fill layer, make it all white, set it to "Decrease Lightness", and then paint on it with a light grey brush to do textured shadows on the color layer beneath
@DrawingArtNowАй бұрын
Yeah, to be honest it seems it's above mine too. I think I should have separate layer for each ingredient. For now I was trying to keep texture and color on same layer and only split shadows, might give it a try splitting textures next? But I kinda feel like textures should be on the same level as default filling color.

Your measuring skills are crazy good, the amount of improvement in just a few months is just mind blowing! Keep up the amazing work!!

Thanks! For measuring I use couple tricks actually: 1. Right in the first 5 seconds I use brush tip silhouette for measurements. 2. On 0:25 I rotate canvas so spear is horizontal and then try to make horizontal lines. Got to say (and I realize it only right now writing this comment) diagonal lines from bottom left to top right are easier for me, since I am right handed person, I think. What I should have done is place a dot for spear end and connect it with diagonal line instead of keep trying horizontal ones. So thanks for that sudden enlightenment too

So the MAJOR mistake on this one is that box should be put into perspective.

If you want to turn head to a "fixed" angles like at the start 0:00, you can use Blender or pause video at the start and screenshot it there (or on 3:34 ). Making screenshots in browser on sketchfab.com/ should be enough to start too. They also have a lot of other models like heads, characters, objects etc in different styles. Always use references is probably the most valuable advice you should hear at the start of the journey. Let me know if need a video on getting head in Blender, though I think it's pretty easy and there are enough videos about it on youtube already.

on 2:00 spend like couple minutes trying to get why it's not drawing... and all that time there were a tiny selection on the left It's keep happening to me

So obs isn't recording popup windows for the Krita unless you record your full desktop. On 1:20 the trick with colors is quite simple and "nondestructive". You select layer on the right, press F3 or right click layer and uncheck one of the channels in a settings popup of that layer. It helps in case you are having sketch and want to do linework afterwards. Having sketch and actual lineworks in different colors helps you see where you still need to put lines. ✌ That trick I got from one of the www.youtube.com/@DavidRevoy videos

As for the goals of gestures practice, it depends on time limit that you set to yourself. For those in this video I want to reach 30 seconds one day. They shouldn't match every curve, but generally be correct on proportions and viewer should clearly get the pose from those couple curves making the gesture. For 2-5 mins, it can include some anatomy details and may be even shadows. The gestures practice itself should help with making sketches and breaking stiffness habit of the arts or so they say in books.

Hmm... I think for gestures it's important not to put volumes first, but main curves. Then when you have stick figures hopefully out of curves, you can start adding additional curves to give them more shape. P.S. I am actually surprised last one turned out that good, thought it would be worst at first.

Yo! Those are really good!! And the anatomical references are such a good idea! Could you share your thought process with us next time? Even with references i sometimes find it hard to put the idea on paper... Either like a voice over explaining how you go about, or even some text to go with would already do wonders! Anyhow, keep it up!!

Heya! So generally I use 3 tricks: 1) Landmarks. Start with the spine curve, then put out 2 lines: one connecting shoulders, second connecting hips. Or you can start with those 2 lines and then add spine curve. Reason is once you have at least something on canvas it becomes much more easy to add more lines and you can always erase mistakes if those happen. So basically what you need at the start is some anchors or landmarks to work around. When i do limbs I often put those landmarks too: shoulder point, elbow point, wrist point. Once you have those you just need to connect it with the curves. Same with legs: hips, knee, ankle. So in short put more landmarks for you to work around. 2) This trick generally helps a tiny bit with vertical proportions. It only works if you are going 1:1. On the left side of the video there is a ruler (I think every app has one of those). When I move my cursor there is a bar moving on that ruler. That way I can technically make a "mental line" of some sort, e.g. my cursor, reference picture knee, ruler bar. If it looks like like a line then I am cool, if it's curve, then it's wrong spot for a knee landmark. 3) This one is very powerful. Like super powerful. Make a keybinding to mirror the canvas. In Krita it's M key by default. Your brain will be amazed about so many mistakes that went unnoticed seconds ago.

Note to myself... USE BIGGER CANVAS! LIKE REAL BIG! You can see that when I used pixel brush 4:00 that it was too small.
