That's not really old school mabi, you still have a lot of QoL that didn't exist in G1 mabi, like WASD movement (yes, in the beginning you could only move with the mouse).

Mabinogi being completely free given just how big an expansive it is, is practically unheard of even now. Usually 'free' mmo means heavy p2w, or that its 'free' to a point of then forcing you into scenarios where you kinda have to pay to progress. Mabinogi is literally just free. It has a paid service but unlike a membership or something else, its only there for if you want to progress slightly faster/support the game/guild creation(which, to be fair is and will always be a bizarre choice to bar guild creation behind it) content isnt barred behind it. Meanwhile you have 'free' but p2w, or 'free' with a membership (in the case of Runescape, the membership unlocks the rest of the game). Mabi never makes you spend money. It doesnt have cash shop pop ups constantly. My philosophy is, ad will always be, that if a game is good, people will be more inclined to spend money in it. Thats definitely Mabi. Its had its ups and down with Nexon and how crappy they can be, but its still a good game. A surprisingly good game.

It’s crazy because some of these systems I remember doing in old school Mabinogi when I first place it. Now I hop on the live servers and it feels like every mmo out there. A lot of dull content after the golden era, fast tutorial level up system that gives you gear to run through all of the golden era content without telling you anything. And then lack of actual SOCIAL content.

What kept me from playing on Mabi Pro was the heavily incomplete english translation of the game and the very elitist community, I often felt like I was stepping on eggshells whenever I was about to write something in the chat, a friend of mine even got harassed so much by some of the games community to the point where they quit simply for selling leather for cheap, people would sometimes warn others about 'someone important' that you have to respect or not text to at all or else they could get you banned or harassed by their fans/followers to the point of having to quit. This was not the case in the beginning, in fact Mabi Pro attracted many of the people that got fed up with the official servers elitism, lack of new content or miss-handling of the game (the two last points have pretty much been solved by now), but people turned Mabi Pro into an even more elitist community then the official server ever was. I have no idea how Mabi Pro is doing today as I haven't logged in for years.
