Love old books, but I’ll never have the money to buy these kinds of books. 30 years ago they were just a little out of my budget and now they cost 10 times as much. They go up in price faster than I can make the money to buy them.

And I disagree with the statement that there is a capitalistic desire to have an art object 20:30 Art has a universal appeal and art possession is was older than capitalism. I think is a human characteristic as no other being collects art. Very nice lecture, I hope will help to stop biblioclasts.
@madfemurfast5 ай бұрын
I do not think there is a need for further destruction. There are more available leaves nowadays than collectors, therefore, individuals can select out of a wealth of materials. Current books, perfect or not, should be preserved. And there is no question that Ege saw a perfect business opportunity that was interrupted by his untimely death. In the XXI century, biblioclasts are wrong.

This is so interesting, I could listen to this gentleman all day. I have got a collection (of sorts), very specialised, about 2,000 volumes, but it contains nothing remotely as old or as expensive as the volumes he talks of. For all that, the experience of getting started and building up a collection is immediately recognisable. You buy one book, apparently with no particular motivation, and it leads to another one, connected with it. And then something you have bought leads you sideways to another subject and you are off, following another pathway. It's such an adventure, so interesting. Then there are books about books, an endless subject. The history of books and printing is enthralling. Thank you, professor, for your knowledge and wisdom.

Don't play wax cylinders on that machine! They will be damaged. You are playing a blue amberol cylinder which was made of celluloid , an early plastic.
@uispeccoll Жыл бұрын
Hello! Thanks for the message. This is one of our "spare" or duplicate cylinders that we purchased for our teaching cabinet so they could be played to show students how the machine works. Collection material isn't used on the machine.
