My absolute favorite version of this song.

He is pretty athletic and animated while singing. Watch the version with Stephanie J. Block for comparison. I liked their connection and how they interact and move around the stage. I didn't realize how much things can vary day to day on the same stage.

I've about come to the conclusion that Evita just does not work as a stage production. There is little in the story that can be rendered visually appealing in live performance. Film media is a better vehicle for this material, far more flexible. Part of the problem is the music. The melody is enjoyable, but the lyric attempts too much data, not enough story. In film, you can dub the vocals over the video without losing lyric to physical exertion. You can show the political climate without trying to describe it. You can edit with a snip here and a snip there, not a stage reset.

Nobody could be more authentic playing Evita than a real and true Argentian. The character of Evita would have been laughable if it is an accent other than a real Argentian.

Wow Ricky is not good as Che. He is a talented man, but this was not the right role for him. Elementary acting, unsuitable vocals. It’s a shame.

Rachel Potter would have done so much better in the role of Evita. Whoever this Elena Roger is, needs to learn how to sing & not to scream!!! Horrible!!!

Never liked Elena. Too much screaming. That’s why even I was in New York didn’t wanted to watch it. I am boricua and liked Ricky Martin’s performance.

My husband surprised me with front row tickets to see this show before it closed. I cried the ENTIRE show. I admittedly was not a fan of Elena's voice from the recordings prior to seeing it, but after seeing her live, I absolutely loved it. She played the role so well. My favorite show ever to see live thus far, was it front row seats? Maybe. But again, I cried the whole time.

Roger is phenomenal in this role. She IS Evita!

Sweet and Lovely

Evita is my favorite Broadway soundtrack - I grew up listening to it but only had the opportunity to see it on stage for the first (and so far only) time with this revival show. I’m so sorry to say that I did not enjoy Elena Roger’s performance at all - and during intermission, my friends and everyone around me were panning her and saying how awful they thought she was. Maybe as some are saying she’s closer to the “real” Eva than the Broadway version - but we are all there and paid to see the Broadway version.

As usual Elena is incredible. Unique and complex. The people who gripe about her voice must have a very narrow view that the role must be sung by a "Broadway belter" type voice. Not so

Her vocals are community theatre at best. She can act tho. I think they were going for “authentic” by casting an Argentine woman. Backfire for sure. They should’ve casted Alice Ripley.

I love that you can tell that this is a performance from before they recorded their cast album, because she sings "sorrowful precis" instead of "pitiful precis," which is a lyric change that Sondheim made *at* the recording session.

the ending gives literal chills down my spine every time

This is my favorite version, how I wish I could buy DVD to collect it.
