Are these lifts and circles to be done in partner work or alone.
@KizombaRegina7 күн бұрын
The way I taught them, they are meant to be done when dancing alone. You can also do them with a partner but you have to be careful not to disturb the leading and following of the dance.

I'm really confused about dancing 3 on a 4 beat. I recently spoke with an Angolan instructor who said, "No we don't...wait yes we do!", "I had never noticed that". Maybe I too rigid in my counting of beat, rather than, "Listening to the music", which is an unhelpful comment that I get from Followers. My question is: Are the 3's meant to add up to 12 i.e. 4 repetitions or do you just have to say "Stuff the beat" and wonder around the dancefloor, doing whichever steps come to mind?
@KizombaReginaАй бұрын
In kizomba, you dance one step at the time. You dance to the music not to the theory of the music if that makes sense. Your steps don’t need to fit within an 8 count framework.
@MrRobinThorntonАй бұрын
Why is the music in 4, but some dance steps in 3, please? I find this so confusing. Are they meant to add up to something?
@KizombaReginaАй бұрын
Great question. In kizomba you dance one step at the time. You dance to the music and not on the theory of the music. Usually people who do other dances like salsa or bachata have the reaction to kizomba because the steps do not seem to fit within the music phrase. But that’s a very Eurocentric way of viewing music and dance. If you really have to make your steps fit within an 8-count, you can play with accelerations and decelerations within your dance. But the goal would be to get away from this structure that doesn’t exist in kizomba.

Hello, thank you for the wonderful video. Are these steps the same for leaders and followers? Is it for followers?
@KizombaReginaАй бұрын
Hello. These steps are usually what leaders would do. But keep in mind that kizomba is not so rigid, so the followers could also do them if they’re being led into them.

All great advice! I struggle with dancing because my back and arm muscles are so tight because of my physical job. Leaders were constantly telling me to relax and that really didn’t help because I was already as relaxed as I could be, plus had pain which affected my balance as well because I could twist my body well. I’ve been given physiotherapy exercises which have made a huge improvement on my pain and flexibility. And now I regularly go to Pilates and occasionally yoga to help with flexibility, balance and core strength. And also do belly dance exercises to help disassociate my hips and chest. For a long time I thought that I was just a bad dancer and wouldn’t be able to improve. But it was actually a flexibility problem. Now I’m seeing myself relax and improve :) Thanks for sharing!
@KizombaRegina2 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for sharing. Unfortunately many people in situations similar to yours think they aren’t good dancers, when in fact they just need to address a mobility/flexibility issue. For that you also have to keep dancing. Because the more you do a movement the better you become at it. :)

Why these songs are not kizomba ? Please name few songs so that I can have an idea of what kizomba's song sounds like
@KizombaRegina2 ай бұрын
Great question! 👩🏽🏫 But the answer is quite nuanced. It’s not that these song aren’t kizomba or kizomba-adjacent. It’s that people who know and enjoy kizomba do not typically enjoy these songs. For example, you will never hear these songs at a kizomba social/party. If you look at actual kizomba teacher and dancers online, they never dance to these songs either. You will typically hear those songs when people who aren’t familiar with kizomba want to include kizomba at their event. If you compare it to food, it’s like giving Taco Bell or Taco Time to someone who wants authentic Mexican food. 🌮 😆 Here are examples for kizomba: kzbin.info/www/bejne/amqrc3mYoad_lbssi=4tqPaMoxKg3VwY7z

Hi! Coming across your videos now and I appreciate you slowing things down. I guess the main question I have is how do these steps look like when you have a partner infront of you? Are these moves more for solo movement ? For instance the part where you move your one leg infront diagonal and then back diagonal and your hands are free to move around, where is the partner ? Are you able to present these from a leader standpoint with holding a pretend frame and discuss where the partner is? Or better yet insert short clips in between of what it would look like with a partner so that both follower and leader can understand where they are ? I know you’d have to bring someone in for that but it would really help in seeing how this all works together .
@KizombaRegina2 ай бұрын
Hello 👋🏾 You can do most of these moves with a partner. But you may have to modify them a little to accommodate the lead/follow.

Sweet Baby Jesus! This video is the one. Praise the Lord. I recently went to a Kizomba class in Dublin, Ireland and got HUMBLED. To make matters worse I'm originally from a country where Kizomba/pasada is very prominent, I just never took the time to learn it. Maybe it is because it was my first lesson; but I felt like the instructor was showing us certain steps whilst "teaching" and then doing a completely different complex dance when demonstrating with her partner. This made it difficult for me to latch onto anything. It felt like she was flexing on us, not actually teaching us. This video was fun yet understandable, I can't wait to implement these steps at my next class. God Bless you #Kizombeiro
