plastic bush type are designed for high moisture / cold / ice applications . to keep the unit spinning without bearing failure in super cold . roller bearings design are for warner climates . they will eventually wear out in 5-10 years

You can do a California cut its better on 6/12 and when he pulling up them shingles if you use a very shingle adhesive under them shingles about a 3/4inch back from the cut you never have a problem

You are so right I fixed many of leaks that were caused by roofers not cutting those points off. Or I call dog earring the shingles

So where's the demo for the alternate method from the "California Cut" or however you want to refer to it?
@skim4me4 жыл бұрын
That's a closed cut valley. There's no such thing as a California cut valley. California style closed valleys, are no cut closed valleys. California valleys are made when you run a line of vertical shingles up the valley, then tie in your horizontals over the top of the verticals.. No cutting.....

Open valleys using a W metal flashing on top of ice shield membrane is the only pro method. Anything else is taking a shortcut at the homeowners expense.

What about with architectural/laminated shingles. Manufacturers recommend not to use a woven valley with them because apparently the thickness causes issues with trying to do a woven valley. They recommend the closed cut. Either with or without flashing.

As a retired roofer I not only cut the points but used ice and weather barrier in valleys and sealed the entire valley with a bead of roof cement to keep debri from going under shingles causing leaks
@garyK.45ACP5 жыл бұрын
NEVER let this guy on your roof! You do not cut the shingles up, you remove the entire shingle. He tore one of the tabs to the right when he was cutting up the shingles and didn't fix the tear. You should have overlayed the piece of felt underlayment you cut. It would take 15 minutes to do this job right. You did wrong in 10 minutes. Congratulations Sir, please, delete this video.

Ball bearings are 608z roller skate bearings . They don't last but are replaceable .

For anyone considering powered vents, keep in mind the solar ones don't run without the sun unless it's an electric version that you have wired into your electrical wiring. Turbines run day and night and need no power. Powered ones can pull more air but...

you ripped that home owners shingle when you took the last one out, the right tools make the right job yes use the flat bar too get underneath the shingle but use a nail puller too remove the nails, instead of cutting up his shingles dont be lazy and remove full shingles, you were just damaging the shingles and then re installing them.... @@TheINCDexter no because ur length x the width and we have to do the width in two sections because of the pitch.

The man is right. I just took my 15 year old closed valley apart and found a bunch of rusty nails where the dirt and debris lifted the shingles and the water came in. No points were cut. No metal was underneath to protect the valley. Thank God I live in the dry desert where it doesn't rain much.
