very inspiring, i do that but after all my pup didn't survive, can you tell me or maybe any video how we care the pup especially media density, watering, light intensity? thank you!
@TheRootCulturist3 күн бұрын
It also depends on how establish the pup roots are. A lot of factors to raising a pup. Watering, media should be kept moist until the plant is more established. Lighting can be the same as the parent plant. Media density depends on your grow area the usual free draining is good.

Hi, these are 2 ways to hybrid. 1) Mix the spores together and hope they hybrid 2) when the spores are in the gametophyte stage put them together. Side by side.

I don't understand what's the horizontal plane here with an angled ruler. Why don't you use a straight ruler? Ps, why are you reversing the direction which further confuses me? Lastly, given that you already lost me at the horizontal plane, the quizzes are pointless..... OK, I need this video but I don't get it. Ps, I can't find the bud on my platycerium...
@TheRootCulturist2 ай бұрын
The ruler being angled or straight doesn’t affect the plane-just focus on the straight edge. You can use any straight object, like a ruler or a stick. I flipped the direction to show the difference between right and wrong alignments. Plants aren’t always rigid, so understanding it from different angles helps. It’s about understanding the general alignment, not being overly strict. If you can’t find the growth bud then either it is dead or the plant is still young.

How you water this ridleyi? Spray daily or soak in the water of fertilizer each 3 days? My previous plant dead because overwatered 😢
@TheRootCulturist3 ай бұрын
It’s hard to dictate water every 3 days or every 5 days because each grow area is different. Need to also adjust to the environment. For ridleyi, it’s a good practice to let the plant dry out before the next watering. Morning sun, good airflow is good for the plant.

@TheRootCulturist3 ай бұрын
Hi, if the growth point is black or soft then it’s likely dead. If 1 has some green, that one alone may be strong enough to produce pups to eventually bring it back to its former glory. You can try with systemic which helps to get rid of sucking type insects. Check your local nursery they should be able to advise one for suitable ferns.

I have got a few questions caring for Platycerium Ridleyi: 1) how to care for it if I am growing it indoors (fyi I live in UK)? 2) what's the best indoor tempreture for it? 3) does the substrate needs to be very loose and with good drainage? 3) on average who much sunlight does it needs? 4) if the leaves are yellowing, what does it means? Thank you :)
@TheRootCulturist4 ай бұрын
Hi, 1) For indoor growing you will need to supplement led lights Par30 E27 lights works well. If the plant can acclimate to your indoor condition they are quite hard actually. 2) 18-30°C is a good range 3) Sphagnum is ok. Let the plant dry out before watering. Good airflow is critical 4) Could just be old leaves. It hard to visualise without seeing a photo of it.

@TheRootCulturist8 ай бұрын
Yes, in the tropics black spot occurs when it’s warmer day and night related to heat stress. Ellisii thrives in moist conditions, so it's essential to maintain adequate moisture levels while ensuring proper airflow to prevent rot.
