The advantage of paying relatively much on taxes. It makes life so much better when spent on things like infrastructure, education, healthcare. And that benefits the whole society.

I'm Dutch and almost 80 years and I live with my Dominican wife in her country. My typical breakfast is 3 slices of brown bread, with cheese (Gouda), ham and peanut butter. I drink milk or cola zero.

Poffertjes are often used as lunch on the weekend. I live in the Netherlands and we never used it as a desert. It also depends on whether you make them yourself or buy them from the store. Making them yourself is the best option because of the better taste. But it takes some time of course if you use it as a dessert you need less of them. But still, I personally find it too much time for a desert.

My biracial son has just had to deal with heavy racism here in Spain, by his own peers. They spray painted his name and racial slurs on the park equipment where the teenagers hang out. They punched him and hit him in the head, they have threatened him online numerous times. So we’ve decided to move to Netherlands, but I’m here doing my research to make sure this move will be good for him. We are from South Africa and never experienced racism there in either direction… so this has been quite a shocking experience for us, my son especially. Thank you for putting our mind at ease. Now to find a job so we can move as soon as possible. Coz for now my son can’t leave the house without me as they are always lurking around waiting for him. ☹️

I don't get how 'bread in a can' is weird to an American when something like Pillsbury canned crescent rolls are way bigger in the US, even being advertised during the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, televised nationwide to millions of viewers?

The Dutch don't interfere in people's personal lives. You can marry a man, a woman, black, white ....the choice is yours

Had the same point of confusion. But guess she means colour. Seems still a big divider in us society…. Sad, certainly for a country predominately inhabited by immigrants or descendants of immigrants.

Home births aren't the norm in the Netherlands, but it is much more common than in other countries, and there is a system in place that means it's just as safe as giving birth in the hospital.

pancakes and poffertjes are not breakfast foods in the netherlands btw, it is a treat so you are being really nice to your lovely boy but normally he would just have bread, whole weat one cheese and one chocolate sprinkles and a glass of milk being very traditional, other things are eaten but on weekdays this would be fairly typical dutch

What's it like to be black in the NL as though you're the first black person there. Blacks have been living in the NL since slavery, sweat heart! First all, you black women should stop crying about how the world is out to get you. Black women are not the only race of women facing racism and discrimination. The Chinese, the Arab and the indian women are all facing the same, but you never heard those making videos and crying foul. It's only our black women always. I'm s*ck of it!

Although I didn't live in the Netherlands I had vacationed there. Me and my family were welcomed with open arms in Amsterdam and Haarlem. It was my first time there and I went with my wife and daughter. It was a great experience and the people went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. I would move there if I could. Beautiful country and the Dutch are very open minded.

I think it would be good if some of the myths die out, the US ranks only 90 on the list of ethnic diversity (the Netherlands ranks even lower that's true too, but the Netherlands doesn't claim to be a melting pot) and it would be good to understand in the US because of economics, let's say, people with their roots in Africa, are often stuck in the same neighborhoods. and we have that less here in the Netherlands, but still not as good as for example the UK (as I understand it) where social housing is often spread out very well over all the neighborhoods.
