Even small towns here are diverse.....there is no black or white thing. All we like to see is participation ( to a certain point) in the local culture. But thats not skin colour issue. Oh..racists are everywhere. And is a shame.. welcome.

Although I didn't live in the Netherlands I had vacationed there. Me and my family were welcomed with open arms in Amsterdam and Haarlem. It was my first time there and I went with my wife and daughter. It was a great experience and the people went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. I would move there if I could. Beautiful country and the Dutch are very open minded.

I think it would be good if some of the myths die out, the US ranks only 90 on the list of ethnic diversity (the Netherlands ranks even lower that's true too, but the Netherlands doesn't claim to be a melting pot) and it would be good to understand in the US because of economics, let's say, people with their roots in Africa, are often stuck in the same neighborhoods. and we have that less here in the Netherlands, but still not as good as for example the UK (as I understand it) where social housing is often spread out very well over all the neighborhoods.

I grew up in the US and all of the problems you mention are just things I’ve seen on tv. youre comparing a country thats equivalent to the size of a medium sized state in the US and & generalizing it over a country that might as well be considered a continent. The ‘black experience’ is way less negative than the media portrays it out to be. I’d argue that we actually have an advantage rather than a disadvantage.

yeah as a black person not from the US but living in the Netherlands just want to say not everyone has a good experience as you. The Netherlands is not the same as the US when it comes to racism, but does not mean it does not happen at all. I also lived in Dordrecht, its still relatively big in comparison to the villages. And Dordrecht is quite divers too.

I wonder what you consider nudity, as I don’t think I don’t see a lot of nudity on Dutch tv. But yeah, a body is a body. It’s less sexualized here. Stores not going above and beyond. Nobody here expects that. Store employees can say no to customers, and as a customer you’ll have to accept that. It’s calvinistic, I guess. If a sandwich shop is out of a certain type of sandwich, they can’t magically make one for you, all they can do is offer you an alternative, but you won’t get a free drink on top of it as compensation. Things can run out. Same with other products. “op=op”, that’s just reasonable to most Dutch people. We really don’t expect “above and beyond”, we’re already pleasantly surprised with “above”. Also, toll-free numbers used to get abused a lot by people, so companies decided to ask a fee. That fee is legally limited though. And I think the free returns thing of online stores is also going to go away at some point, as that gets abused a lot too.

His bike is too small. The height of the seat should be adjusted to a height where your knees almost fully stretch when the treadle is at its lowest point. Then adjust the handles to a comfortable position accordingly. The toilet position on a bike (where your knees are not below your hips at the highest position), makes you use a lot more energy for you to make the treadles go around and your hips and bottom hurt. Also remember that the bigger the wheels (and thinner), the easier you go forward,, depending on your height. So when your 5' something, use 24" wheels, below 6' use 26" wheels and above 6', use 28" wheels. When stopping in front of a light, you should be able to tiptoe for balance or get of the saddle briefly with your feed flat. In the Netherlands, we just hold a pole instead where available. Missing your videos btw....

So you drive around in the Netherlands, what is sensible and completes the story is that your American driving license is not valid in the Netherlands or Europe, the only exception is for six months as a tourist for a permanent conversion you will have to take driving lessons and exams again, it will have to do with the difference of driving style between the USA and the Netherlands and that explains the story why traffic in the Netherlands is so different, so safe.

Poffertjes are not breakfast food.... There is not a single Dutch person who would let their children eat poffertjes for breakfast. You eat a boterham for breakfast or yoghurt. Not poffertjes. I gueass only wif you are an American living in The Netherlands would you feed poffertjes to your child at breakfast.

The substantial difference of the Healthcare systems between Europe and the USA is essentially one: while in Europe the system is oriented towards care and social welfare, in the USA it is oriented towards the production of income. With all the operational and social consequences of this. Although not impossible, it is extremely difficult for a family here in Europe to find itself in financial ruin as a result of a serious illness or accident affecting one of its relatives. In the USA this seems quite common.
