I grew up in a town where we regularly heard this Leslie horn. It seems much more clear and attention getting than many of the newer Nathan 5-chime horns. With these Nathans, it seems that some of the bells actually cancel out other bells, or obscure their sound, especially with some the K5LLA versions. However, Nathan has come up with one or two horns that have the same pattern as the older Leslies If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Amtrak has these on their GE P30CH (pooch) locomotives i'm not sure if they were running at the same time as the F40PH though i think those came out a few years later as well as the K5LA but some had p5 old cast and one had a RS5T (AMPK 292) and one had a M5 (AMPK 345)

Geez that timbre is amazing! Super smooth. You running a longer airline that’s more regulated or is it just that good?
@SuperTyfonatorАй бұрын
It's just that good. Same exact air setup as every other video on my channel, but the cold temperature does help mellow it out. I'm still trying to figure out why it sounds so damn smooth lol

That leslie RS4T is a beautiful sounding horn. The first 3 bells of it is the leslie S3K with #55 bell added. I guess that the chord is a D minor 7th .

Would 3d printing the diffuser rings work? I have been trying to make my own but cutting them perfect is the difficult part. This Leslie sounds perfect! I have a RS5T but doesn’t sound anything like this! Sounds terrible lol.
@SuperTyfonatorАй бұрын
It might be possible although I’ve never messed with them so I’m not sure how they go in lol. Do you have a video of it?
@TracksideTysonАй бұрын
Sounds great I also like the K1L13 sounds similar.
@TracksideTysonАй бұрын
Any more horn ideas for the 3d printer? How did the longest bells fit inside the printer when being created? Sounds awesome and looks just like an old cast p5.
@SuperTyfonatorАй бұрын
I have a bunch of ideas that I want to make eventually. The longer bells had to be printed in multiple pieces and epoxied together, if you look close you can see the rings of glue around some of the bell midsections. The power chambers were also printed separately because they had to be printed in the opposite orientation of the bells
@TracksideTysonАй бұрын
@ Nice work 👍🏼

Sounds really nice and musical. What part is 3d printed?
@SuperTyfonatorАй бұрын
The whole thing is 3d printed, minus the bolts and diaphragms
@TracksideTysonАй бұрын
@ That’s insane, I remember asking someone if they could make some 3d printed back caps or parts for the horn but the person said it would break from air vibration and pressure. What type of 3d printer did you use?
@SuperTyfonatorАй бұрын
@@TracksideTyson Bambu lab P1S. And nope, handles the vibrations just fine. Bells are all 100% infill, manifold is 50% infill with 7 wall loops.
@ZillaJr2005Ай бұрын
Would putting double diaphragms in the power chambers eliminate the squeak? I ask because if so, I wouldn’t be able to tell the sound of this horn apart from an actual M5! I really wish Nathan Airchime made the P5s like this, it’s officially become my favorite P horn.
@SuperTyfonatorАй бұрын
In my experience running double diaphragms slightly increases the squeakiness. But thank you! It’s one of my new favorite configurations now
@mikeoc5763Ай бұрын
@@SuperTyfonator Im printing the Open Tone 5 horn 3d model. Please what material are you using for diaphragms? Thanks.
@SuperTyfonatorАй бұрын
@@mikeoc5763 I'm using actual Nathan P diaphragms, I don't think plastic diaphragms would work very well. I'm honestly not sure what the open tone uses.
@mikeoc5763Ай бұрын
@@SuperTyfonator The Open Tone power section is a different design, tuneable but very low power output. I used a TPU diaphragm. It works but....... I'm looking for a prototype chime to model and print. Cool stuff, thanks for posting.

It sounds like a lowered K5LA
@ZillaJr2005Ай бұрын
It pretty much is. I can confirm that because I play around with a synthesizer app on my phone. I made a K5LA, then played with the pitch, and when I lowered the pitch, I noticed it sounded EXACTLY like a Nathan M5.
@SuperTyfonatorАй бұрын
You are correct! The notes/intervals are all exactly the same but transposed down a couple half steps similar to an M5.

What a harsh sounding chord, man I love the RS5T. Without question the greatest train horn ever.
