In Dresden we have 45 Metre (148ft) long streetcars. We also tow them just like that, but we usually have a 3rd behind the damaged just to stop it in case something would fail on the steep hill to our main depot. They've been doing that for decades. I remember seeing it when I was a kid in the 60s. They also have trucks that can tow streetcars in a similar manner. Some of the old PCC cars could also be coupled for operation.

The early CLRV's also had couplers for MU operation. Although I don't believe they were ever used int that way and they were eventually removed and safety skirts installed.

My Mom had an old Dodge station wagon that had this. We called it Juke Box Drive. She pushed R to go to reverse and sparks came out. It never worked again so us kids had to push the thing backwards.

Just a cautionary word don't let the kids play with the push button shift when they pull one out you will have to get towed to the transmission shop if you can find one that knows how to fix a push button shifter You can't just push it back in it doesn't work a lesson learned at the ripe old age of 5
