I use interfacing/tracing cloth. Can see the pattern through the cloth so need for an awl or tracing wheel. Sturdier than paper.

My mother who has worked with making clothes for plus size women, always layed paking paper over the original patern and traised over them so she could just pin the baking paper with the pattern onto the fabric and then cut throuh the pattern.

My aunt used to sew clothes, and I would watch her as she worked. It always caught my attention, but they never had the will to teach me because I was a boy. Now, at almost 40, I still want to learn. I do not know where to start though. I am interestd on making shirts and accesories like wallets. Any advice?

My mother always makes a coppy of the pattern using parchment paper or baking paper. that way you don't damage the original and you can still cut the pattern out of the parchment paper.

I tried to make my first basic dress without a pattern or a plan, and surprisingly it wasn't that bad. However, that was only after running into many problems and then wasting a lot of time solving them lol
@echoedbluekitty23Ай бұрын
belatedly realized about cutting straight into the pattern right after i did it lol but as silly as it sounds, it never occurred to me to....trace it. I'm absolute beginner as well and this video has been insanely helpful. also i'm so grateful that you explained the symbols. tysm

Where exactly am I cutting the notch? Is it done once the pattern is cut and folded to the opposite, matching pattern?
