i'm in the process of making this right now, so i was thinking i'd give you guys some tips for the stuff i ran into! - you DEFINITELY need 3x your waist in fabric (i had a 2 60-inch pieces of fabric and i needed 90, and debated only using 60. i ended up using 90 bc ~instructions~ and sewed the 2 pieces together. the skirt is perfect waist rn) - i don't have those cute little clips to clip the pleats so i used tiny binder clips (although pins work fine too) - make sure to realllly iron down the pleats when they're done (i used steam to make sure they were flat). this both makes it easier to work with later (like creases on paper) and makes the pleats noticeable and crisp when the skirt is done. i was also debating skipping this but its essential - when done sewing the pleats, sew a long line at the very top to clip down all the loose pleats in the inside of the skirt. this'll make it easier to work with i just finished sewing the pleats, and will come back whenever i have something to add! hope these help :)

As a fellow seamstress I tend to get super annoyed when people dont calculate the difference between the waist and hip and adjust the pleats acrodingly... so this made me EXTRA happy! (What I mean is that most only sew the pleats at the waist, but it still makes the pleats open when the skirt is worn! And if they sew the pleats down, they miss the step of making room for the hips, and re-pressing the pleats before sewing them down, which usually results in the skirt not fitting at all!) In conclusion: well explained, with that perfect hint of humor and sewing frustration. But without missing all the important steps to creating a nice, clean, finished look. 👌

I love this tutorial, it’s so detailed and tailored! However I will say just for everyone, cut out a piece of cardboard the size you want your pleats, and pleat all of them across the top whilst sewing in the machine. It’s so much quicker than ironing and pinning, plus, everytime I’d move my skirt, the pins and the pleats would fall out. Saved me like less than a quarter of the time. (And if you’re plus size, this is a lot better to do, bc you have more material, the pins and material jsut don’t stay)
