There is an electric demo version he recorded during the Roman Candle era. As with so many things relating to the handling of Elliotts music post death, I have no idea why the powers that be haven’t released it.

@@trystero1729 I know, but the one in the video is different. It's probably Jon's since he the uses the same one at the end, I've only seen Elliott with a Yamaha or Gibson.

Every time I listen to Elliott Smith, I want to be a better person afterwards. I hope that in his short life he enjoyed knowing that he had that effect on people sometimes.

Jon, have you ever heard of a Technics KN6500 work station? I have been using it for years and when I remember what you were doing in jr. high, this workstation would have helped you with all your organization of musical creations. You would realy get a lot out of this workstation. Mr Fortino Whalen jr.high

Apparently filmed by Mary Lou Lord at the Horseshoe Tavern, Ontario, 1995. If this was from their first tour they were in Vancouver 2nd March 1995, Seattle on the 3rd, Portland 4th, San Fran 6th, Los Angeles 7th. I suspect this is from 1st March 1995 or before. They were also in Olympia, WA playing shows on 8th Feb and 12th Feb. He also played Alphabet Town at this show, but the video was uploaded by someone else.

Elliott Smith is a kindred soul to me. Like Matt Kearney, we both had a creative literary indeed musical peak in Portland, Oregon during the same period. Unlike Kearney, I was not aware of Elliott in the same city; he was underground. But when I heard Miss Misery later, after Elliott supposedly died not sure about this, I was instantly soul-touched and started a process of cultural connection, B-sides research, and artistic promotion that was to last years.

Why did he play his songs so differently? This wasn't supposed to be fast paced rock music. Was this corporate pressure forcing him to turn his songs into something people could bop around to? This sounds more like a cover band than Elliot himself. If someone else was playing his music like this I'd hate it.

Why are there no clear, pristine soundboard recordings of Elliott? Did no one on the road crew or in the engineering booth EVER think, “Hey, it might be great to have a listenable copy of this, just to listen to myself someday?” WTF!
