Programming for a horizontal mill is exactly the same as programming for a vertical one. I have used both, and there is no inherent disadvantage to a horizontal machine. It also has advantages in chip evacuation, especially in pockets.

5 DOF robotic arms work well in a vertical setup too. I'm working on a rover that carries one, it could theoretically have infinite dimensions in CNC operations.

Great, but limited to soft materials. Rigidity is King in machining.
@fever417413 күн бұрын
I’ve always wondered why a robot arm that can travel in xyz space with a CNC head attached to it wouldn’t work, especially if the base for the part can rotate too.
@charmio13 күн бұрын
@fever4174 We actually have exactly that at work, big ones too. We use them for carving out sand moulds. But once the metal has been poured, then the part goes off to a more traditional CNC. Even though the arms have more than enough power to mill the parts, they're simply not rigid enough. All those joints are the main problem, but even if you welded the joints solid, the arm itself still wouldn't be rigid enough. Even the ground the CNC's are bolted to is hundreds of tonns of steel and concrete just to get that little bit more rigidity. Any flex causes chatter, tools break, and parts loose accuracy.
@JohnSmith-dp2jd13 күн бұрын
@@fever4174 Rigidity and accuracy. Every joint in a system has a little bit of flex and introduces a little bit of error. Think about how many there are in a robot arm compared to just 4 or 5 for a typical mill. Some of the most accurate machines I've ever worked on were lathes that only had an X and Z axis. On top of that, robot arms have to get much bigger the larger the load out at the end of the arm is, so you're much more limited in how big and how heavy the spindle can be which really limits what kind of tools you can use and how fast you can run parts.
@FletcherHillier12 күн бұрын
@@charmio Low centre of mass and a heavy frame can reduce that, but I have experienced that problem with my 3D printers. They do best on concrete or heavy shelves. I could use a gantry on the front load lifter and bypass the suspension to go frame on frame for CNC operations.
@MetalMinded7313 күн бұрын
How is that not just fourth axis on a horizontal? H. milling doesn't carry the indexer around, & so supports heavier work; that's why its common in automotive, but not aerospace. That worker is too proud to learn, and looks overpaid IME.

The problem is what Americans say and do are too very different things. Millions of patriotic Americans will scream at the top of their lungs buy American! Yet they all will purchase cheap stuff from Walmart or Amazon. Donald Trump is the most perfect example I can think of. Almost every single Trump item he sells is made in China. Even his God bless the USA Bible was proudly made, and the communist republic of China.

And you can look in the past when we had worldwide quarantines and see that things are far worse in those times. Look at the last turn of the century there were two major epidemics that happened

You guys should really consider manufacturing parts for companies like Adtran and Cienna. Telcom parts companies are required to use BABA parts (build american buy american) for anyone looking to use the 43 billion BEAD funding. There's a huge backlog in our industry for the manufacturers because of that.

No where in the tax code does it say that individuals have to pay income tax. Just corporations. The IRS will arrest a person for not paying what they are not even required to pay. The tax code is a joke!!! What the government wants, the government gets.

They say loophole because it goes against the IDEA behind the code. For example, off shore bank accounts are a loophole around paying income, capital gains, etc tax here in the US, which of course is against the IDEA of paying tax on your income, capital gains, etc

This is one of those cases where the fix is worse than the original problem. When you start hearing about "food insecurity" over the next few years that's just a euphemism for starvation. We overestimate the utility of medicine for public health and underestimate the utility if nutrition which has a huge impact on immune systems.
