Nauman had more clarity & color, but you could buy two of the other mic a fix adjust anything in the mix. With a Nauman if your room sounds bad then it'll sound bad.

CV12 is the first studio microphone I started my carreer with, and it's still my main mic, even after I bought a dozen of other mics including the legendary C414. It sounds like U87 + Aphex Aural Exciter that makes my baritone/bass voice shines. If you have a good de-esser to smooth out these extra sibilants, you probably don't need a U87.

For female vocals tracking ambient music, would you suggest an sm7b or wa-47 jr? Thanks so much

If you are in a treated room, the WA47Jr easily. If not, then SM7B.

Hi i just bought the cv12 it's on the way/ but Have you change the tube or the capsle ??
@subtonic24
@subtonic24 8 күн бұрын
I have not changed either. The only thing I did was by a Gotham 7 pin tube cable because the stock cable picks up EMI/RFI way too much making it almost impossible to use your phone near mic. The Gotham helped resolve most of the issue.

A clearly had magic. There was something missing and Chinese part sounding to B. It’s not a bad mic especially for the money. But it sounded thinner with less magic. Had a GTZ 87 and it was garbage. Reminded me of an mxl 2001. Great video!

Only U 87 vintage is best part of the vocal chain. ID 14 MKii is best audio interface. People are just confused about UADs. Other things required are UAD 1176 LN CONPRESSOR, L2A COMPRESSOR.

Yea it's a really great experience! I've always heard vintage U87's were darker so I always associate dark with dull based on my experiences. Not the case with this mic. I love it! Thanks for watching!

It would be a better test to just hear the vocal without the instrument. Besides that I think the TLM-103 flatters her voice better.

Hearing mics in the context of a mix, or at the very least with an instrument gives a better representation of how they perform in real applications. Yea we feel like the 103 is the best mic for her voice!

Try the InnerTube Kit from InnerTube Audio. It's a kit that allows you to turn the u87 into a tube mic. The sound holds up with the big mics like u47, Ela m 251, c800 g etc. you will definitely get a world class sound. Fat, big, wide, open, 3d. The best thing about it is that you can switch it back to the old standard u87 within a few seconds because it is a plug-in system. when will the comparison with the AI 87 come?
@subtonic24
@subtonic24 2 ай бұрын
I'll be honest, I'm not really that interested in the InnerTube kit. I would much rather own a U67 or M269 before I mod my U87. The comparison between vintage and U87Ai is definitely happening before the end of this year so be on the lookout for that!

I had one. The upgraded version and it had a sound so brittle I thought it would break if I looked at it hard enough. I gave it away as I could not in good conscience sell that to anyone without feeling I was pulling one over on them. Stellar labs X2 comes much closer for a budget pick.

Yea compared to a U87, the CV12 does sound more neutral. I still believe it has a colored sound though from my experience. A combination of mid forward and bright modern sound. I liked it when I used it for a hip hop song I worked on when I needed that crispy modern sound, but not as much when I used it for a more acoustic/ambient song. Thanks for watching!

@@subtonic24 understandable, its a new compressor. But if you use LUFs and a reference track you can lock in the dynamics from the reference, while maintaining a transparent compression
