If anyone asks, DevaCurl did nothing to change. I’m now finding the same issues on my head. I have heart palpitations from stopping it after 10+ months of consistent use. Neurotoxins for sure. I was diagnosed with MS after starting this product about ten years ago, but I wasn’t religious about use. The gel definitely burned so bad back then. I eventually picked deva back up and now I am relapsing. I feel stupid for trusting this company after all of the publicity for the scandal. An odd note: My face and hair have 90% of the symptoms of topical steroid toxicity. My theory is that it has steroids in it. Cosmetic companies do this illegally a lot.

I got baby hairs back as soon as I stopped putting anything in my hair other than normal oils. Leave ins completely trashed my hair and it took me years to realize that. It literslly does not matter what brand it is, shedding and breakage will be increased to attain mid hair clumping. To anyone who wants to "tame their frizz" or whatever else, just accept your hair as it is and give yourself a good ol scalp massage with food grade oils. Everything else is bad news. I think many women learn the hard way and it sucks but the beauty is we can reverse course and focus on the good. Everything is going to be okay.

I think something deeper was/is probably going on if simple leave-in conditioners "trashed" your hair 😮

Omg. I am just realizing this about the product.Devacurl. I have not heard about this at all and I’ve been using it religiously since I started to wear my hair curly again. So since 2020. I had no idea this was happening. I also have lupus and I started immunosuppressants. I started them at the same time I started using Devacurl. I seriously thought it was the medication. I even stopped taking the medication because my hair was falling out and looking damaged and dry and breaking. I seriously thought that the medication’s caused it, and I never recovered from it because my hair has never been the same. Oh my God- not only is it not the medication’s but I even stopped taking the medication and felt like shit because of it. I love my hair and I didn’t want my hair to fall out so I stopped taking the medication thinking that was the cause. Jesus Christ I can’t believe this, I’m throwing away my products right now. What do you use now?

You are sooo lucky you did not get your hair chopped and both your appointments got cancelled. I wish i had cancelled mine and just learned how to heal my long strands. I went to a 'curl specialist' and they were not, they also used diva products and i didnt know they were bad until now. So many lessons 😭

I saw these videos too late unfortunately. My hair is not at all the same anymore. I’ve seen results with very expensive PRP and infrared. But that’s it. I’m still experiencing hair loss and frizz. It’s heartbreaking and I know it’s just hair, but it’s a part of my body. Losing any part of your body (hair, teeth, skin) in a permanent way is so sad.

Other than natural ingredients what specific products would you recommend for curly hair like yours? My hair should look like yours but it hasn’t in A LONG time and I haven’t even been using Deva Curl. I haven’t found any good products yet that work for my hair and seeing your hair is really encouraging!

Thank you for sharing this. I was a devoted DevaCurl user since 2006. During the pandemic, it became clear that I have had the worst scalp built up. I forced myself to address it, it was like years of build up coming off my scalp all at once. I had constant dandruff for 2 years. Thank goodness it was the pandemic and I never needed to go anywhere. I should have known better, I too remember the first time I noticed dandruff after using DevaCurl, I addressed it with, like you said, more DevaCurl, and the problem only got worse. In the process of addressing the scalp build up, I have been weening myself off DevaCurl. I am lucky that I never noticed any bald spots but I did notice the more lifeless curls. Honestly, in the early 2000s, I was a little happy that I could achieve that slightly relaxed look. People were not ready for natural curls at the time and DevaCurl was a safe way to try out natural hair. Nowadays, people really appreciate naturally tight curls and perhaps the DevaCurl signature look, is a little dated.
