With the (probable) retcon that Steel Wool William is actually the Mimic cosplaying as him, we can guess that the Mimic's AI was just not able to withstand the power of Britishness

I literally just now realised that they're american in the movie. Like,,,, i knew that they were british in the game and I knew about the actors in the film but i didn't make the connection. Seeing as Mike and Abby apparently aren't at all related to William in the film, they get a pass but it would've been cool for at least William to have an accent. Then again, Lillard's performance was so good I forgot he was supposed to be british lmao so really no problem there

Hi, can I post a short clip of this on my channel? I made a 3minute english to korean translation video. I want to post it on youtube so korean FNaF fans can also understand this. But before that I thought I needed to get permission. Is it ok to post it? The clip is 1:02:28 ~ 1:05:46 .

I never once batted an eye at the fact that the Aftons were British despite William working in Utah with Henry for decades. William doesn't actually have to live there, he could take frequent plane trips, and his kids don't have to live there AT ALL before Elizabeth and Dave are killed. William and Michael might live in Utah post 1983, but those accents aren't going away. I see no issue, no logical inconsistency.

@ 12:20 is a bit misunderstanding, it could be resentment for the resemblance of his father and laughing/sighing it off in disbelief of the fact he’s recognised as his father, the person that abused him and brought in so much pain through so many aspects of his life now dragging him to his fate, idk maybe I’m projecting ngl but it feels dismissive to put it to that’s how genetics work, technically genetics isn’t wrong but I think it really is deeper than that

The way I imagine it "That was easier than I thought it would be." also shows off Williams extreme ego. Michael is HIS son, and he's so great, an immortal mastermind killer, yet it was so easy to kill someone so closely related to him.

a lot of people seem split on fnaf having voice acting and i think i understand both sides. i do think the lack of voices makes it scarier. i always think of little nightmares in that regard, because there _are_ voices, but there are only two spoken _words,_ (which are only said by the human, child protagonists) and i think that distinction gives it a sort of "best of both worlds" thing. because i genuinely could not imagine the games without that creepy ass humming, but the lack of human language makes it feel more otherworldly. that being said, i do still really like the voice lines for the fnaf animatronics, even if it takes a bit of the scare factor away. it adds something new and theyre really fun to listen to. i mean that for all of them, but kellen goffs funtime freddy has my entire heart ^_^

I think it’s very interesting that they were killed almost in the opposite way if that makes sense? Michael is scooped and killed by animatronics from the inside out, and William was spring locked and killed from the inside out. Not sure if this means anything i just realized this now

i have an unhealthy obsession with michael and henrys speeches. i dont know why they go _so_ hard but i love that they do. plus, i just like them as characters. they both seem tired, angry, and bitter and i cant say i blame them. they were close with william and lost family members to him. id be pissed and bone tired, too.

i loved the fnaf movie as a love letter to the community, but as a story i have a lot of issues with it and one of them is definitely the erasure of the aftons accents. i enjoy matthew lillard, he knows how to play a villain. he did good. but he just does not have williams vibe, (im sorry but all i could see was shaggy going rogue and after realizing that i just couldnt take it seriously) and a big part of that vibe WAS his accent. same issue with the other two. theyre clearly supposed to be micheal and elizabeth, but they arent even remotely close. their accent kept them distinct. and as far as william goes, i loved hearing the difference between his accent and henrys. again, kept them distinct and for me personally, made it really easy to separate them in my mind.

i love pj heywoods voice for william. it always made me imagine him as a well-groomed gentleman, not a scraggly serial killer, and i think that works so well because its reminiscent of real serial killers. like ted bundy, who was an attractive man that used his charm to garner sympathy from his victims. its a chilling, intimidating way to think of william, because theres something about him thats off-putting but not anything obvious that'd immediately make you think he _has_ to be on some sort of watchlist, and i cant think of him any other way.

''we are going to come find you ''line, like '' I've been living in the shadows'' is stolen from mike's line in the end of sl where he says to william ''I am going to come find you''. Which another instance of Afton inverting somebody's else line and making it his. But l might just be reading way too much into it.

7:23 personally I think they were likely walking around and looking at the animatronics, and that pose was a slow turn away from baby to whoever he’s talking too. That would also provide more context to why he starts talking about “she” instead of off all the fun times, he’s describing the animatronic they’re standing in front of

I have a feeling that Michael and William possibly even died on the same day. Fnaf 3 mini games and sister location take place over the same amount of time being 5 days (or 5 mini games for fnaf 3 possibly being 5 days). William also told Michael to go down to the SL bunker but then just vanishes implying he’s now locked in the safe room and now Michael has to go find him. Not only that but imagine how poetic it is that the father and son both so similar even down to looks and how they actually sound being so closely tied in with each other that they both die on the exact same day. It would be truly poetic

I absolutely agree with the last comparison tho it's not JUST the accent what matters. Afton was characterized as CALM, calculated, he observes, analyzes, waits like a hunter. The Security Breach one sounds like an plain evil guy with kind of a plan and is emotional, impulsive, impatient, it's the OPPOSITE in charaterization and that kills his character. The british accent is iconic at this point, but he can also have an american accent as long as the TONE and CHARACTERIZATION remains the same. Also, I feel like there's no need to explain why he has a british accent, he could have moved to the US when he was young or when he was older because of job opportunities, who knows, some simple explanation is enough i think. Also, Elizabeth and Michael can have the accent too because of William, is common for children to learn the accent of their parents.

I took his laugh/sigh/scoff after saying "they thought I was you" to be him realizing that maybe that was the plan. Like maybe him coming to terms with the fact that it was pretty undeniable that his father found him expendable, or maybe that he was repulsed by the idea of being compared to his father.

Even though we don't see Michael for very long in the series and don't know much about him, he is easily my favorite character in the entire franchise. A man who made a horrible decision (the accidental murder of his little brother) and discovers the horrors that his father committed and spending the rest of his life making up for his mistakes and atoning for the sins of his father. The way Scott was able to write Michael Afton is very impressive. We know so little about it, yet at the same time we know so much about him.

12:04 It can also be seen as a scoff of disbelief as if he is saying 'I can't believe they that I was you' as if that was something he figured would happen but hoped wouldn't happen, like he finds it a bit humorous, as if that was saying how either Micheal will never escape the shadow of his father and will forever bear the sins, or shows to him how similar he is to his father which he battles with every day. Like a part of him, an inner child maybe, takes a bit of pride in it, but then there is the resentful part that hates to be even remotely similar to Afton. His whole character feels like it is constantly fighting an internal battle and trying to heal from the sins of others as he keeps going through more and more tragedies all while trying to fix the mistakes of his own father. ok i can see why people like analyzing this monologue and character.
