Great tips. I have always been at the net with straight legs😮 Do i also need to bend with the knees at the net? In vibora you have to stay lower, but does it also make sense when i hit volley at the net? Does the ball bounce less in that way?

Is it allowed to throw the ball up in the air when serving so that the ball bounces high?

Thanks for the video. I am missing 2 things though. Fist is if there is requires position to stay in for your partner if you serve. The second is if you smash and the ball hist the ground of the opponent side and goes outside of the court without touching anything else. Thanks

Might be easier with a fh, I feel like my wrist is more flexible and can generate easier power on that side.

I'm from the Netherlands and I think the tennisclubs are more important for the grow of padel than the private indoor clubs. The prices to rent a court at those indoor clubs are really high and still rising and at some point it will just cost to much for a lot of people. At my club you pay less than €200 a year and I can play 3, 4 times a week most of the time. During the winter you will see people go indoors because of the weather off course.

I think the main problem in the UK is the lack of availability of courts and the expense of court time. Seeing close to £15-£30 just for an hour per person. Whereas with tennis you could book the whole court for £10. Also memberships for clubs are just as crazy expensive. Basically excluding a lot of players who would want to play more but just can't afford it. People love playing it and usually the first time is always great. But to play on a consistent basis for most people not feasible.

Agreed. In South Africa, we do have a lot of courts in the main areas, but it’s still quite expensive to book courts.

Why cant you play it from the right side but then cross court, like you do from the left side?

if you are right handed, it is really hard to get the ball to be both behind you and to your left so that you can apply the top spin you play cross court. and trying to play it parallel makes the angle very narow, making it a risky shot. that is why it is not recommend to a right handed player to play the rulo from the right

Can you please explain why we apply the top spin to the shot?
@garymurraya
@garymurraya 4 күн бұрын
You apply the top spin so that 1. the ball comes down over the net as quick as feasible and 2. so that the bounce off the side wall / fence has more effect. Also, its more effective to aim for the post between the glass and the fence, as here you have more angle and the opposition wont know if it will kick up off the glass, or the fence and this makes it harder to defend against than simply going for the fence every time which has a more predictable element. This shot can of course also be mixed up with a bandeja down the line to completley fool them, as its never a good idea to repeat a shot too much.

The ball is more likely to bounce down off of the fence with topspin

Accurate. And the better the level the more a player aims closer to the net on the fence. Also I believe you mean gancho down the line. But you’re exactly right 👍

Went to my local padel club to see a padel tournament yesterday (had top 1 & 2 in GB play against each other) and they got alot of points through faking a smash and then gently hitting down middle, started to learn it for my game, was a brilliant idea and panics the opponent!

I filmed myself while practicing and figured out that i turn my body the right way, but i turn my body back before i start swinging with my arm. The momentum of both actions are after eachother while you want to combine the power of both movements to create power. Long story short: Filming yourself can be a big help! Good luck and have fun everybody!

As a lefty I usually play on the right side. However, I noticed when playing on the left side I am much more comfortable playing volleys and smashes (to the right side/fence). Ball-out-of-the-court-comfortable :) Either side, I’m more comfortable playing backhands. Think I’m making some kind of mistake with my forehand that is much more prominent when playing on the right side. Any clue what that might be?

My biggest struggle with the return is it often gets smashed on because I play it to safe and so is a bit to high. So should I train on getting the ball lower to the net and play at their feet?

Thanks for clarifying the bounce rule (rule 3). As long as the initial bounce and the feet are within the boundary (behind service line and within center line) then it's good. So let say I'm serving from the left, I can bounce the ball within the boundary close to the center line in an angle towards the right side of the center line, lean towards the right while one foot is still in the left boundary, and then contact the ball will be on the right side towards the right service box. I would assume that's legal? I hope I'm explaining properly
