randomly changing pace is universal strategy to throw out of whack opponent`s reflexes/muscle memory and/or make mind go blank due to sudden unexpected changes. it`s a legit strategy by competetive sports` people

“Elegant sport” is an oxymoron unless you count Chess as a sport. And even then.

You can understand how this feels if you've ever played a fighting game and faced a grappler.

Got this in my recommended and I was thinking exactly this. I've seen this tactic used in fighting games and especially platform fighters. Instead of dashing all the time you suddenly just start slowly walking and your opponent crumbles.

@@Tribow I play as zoner in Sf6 and grappler always gave me anxiety :D and don't get me started with King in tekken 8, I especially dont wanna play against a grappler that has a good footsie

Wouldn't have happened if the person had a correct stance with the toes pointed the correct direction. The front foot keeps fading even further and further to the left which forced the person to adopt a horse stance, which caused the torso line to adjust even further to the left which caused the double knee collapse instead of allowing any form of correct retreat, check or even a crossover back.

Hahaha this brings back memories 🤣I did Foil as well when I fenced but I have terrible eyesight and can't fit my glasses on inside the helmet, so I was practically blind. I'd do this sort of thing to trigger a response from my opponent, hoping I'd get something that I can make out from the torso/shoulder because that was the best I could see lol Good times~

… fencing is just not realistic and it’s disappointing cause it looks fun, yet completely useless. They’re competing to who can’t touch each other with the flexible pointy end the fastest. Rapiers aren’t that super flexible, yet there was this form of combat however it neglects so many factors. At best you’re learning footwork… only if you have a thin flexible stick.

This is why I can't play foil! The right of way rule is too confusing in the heat of the battle. Makes for an exciting watch, but playing too difficult. Epee is so much easier when it comes to the rules.
