Not only does the city council, Travis County, CAMPO, etc., NOT WANT those things to improve, they did these things ON PURPOSE. We can improve. We have the capability. It could begin tomorrow, but a certain constituency wants problems NOT to be solved.

I lived in Austin from 1978-1980 while attending UT and hated every minute of it. I'm from big city Houston and to me Austin seems like a redneck cow-town. Most of the culture there, the music and the clubs, is centered around a juvenile mentality of "we're free of our parents' supervision, let's drink beer." On top of that, the Willie Nelson mystique there is based on a stoner marijuana culture. I'm a conservative, republican, church going, morality based guy. Austin culture is against all those things. Austin is a small town, it's missing big city amenities. Contrary to many sentiments expressed in these comments, I was constantly approached by pan handlers, in 1978, any time I was out and about. You would think that Houston would have its share of bums, Austin is Bum Capitol USA. One of the biggest draws of Austin is the famed "Texas Hill Country." People that appreciate that think it's the most beautiful place on Earth. Pshaw. I guess such people don't own a TV and have never seen Utah, Colorado, or Switzerland. I should be more appreciative of my home state, but I never thought the hill country looked like anything worthwhile. One, ahem, concrete point I saw no one mention in the video nor in the comments: Austin is built over hilly terrain with many creeks, rivers, gorges, canyons, hills, and oither natural obstacles. That makes the road system a nightmare to navigate. Everything is one way, no left turn, right lane must turn right. no U-turn. If you don't know, and you get caught in that "must turn right" lane with 12 angry rednecks on your bumper and the lane to your left stacked bumper-to-bumper for 2 miles back, it gets highly frustrating. Maybe Googlemaps helps, but I feel if you need a computer to tell you how to navigate a small town, maybe you should look for an, ahem, alternate small town.

I like to visit Austin a few times a year, but could not see myself living there for anything! It's a headache and a chore getting anywhere in town, but I do love the concerts and racing events, they are top-notch! Austin has a pretty killer pizza scene too!

It seems like you are unhappy with normal changes…. YOU might be happier elsewhere…someplace with FEWER PEOPLE…. 👎🏻👎🏻‼️

For the Birria, that “sauce” or “juice” is called consome, it’s just the broth that the meat was being cooked in and then they’ll topped with onion and cilantro.

Austin has gone blue and the leftists ideas dont work. The whole county is blue and stated earlier the left ideas dont work. As usual when you go woke you go broke. I lived in Austin 1978-80. It was a great place but had problems even then. The traffic is worse than Houston or Dallas. Austin only has two major roads and they both run north and south. Even back in 1978 traffic was bad and nothing has improved but even gotten worse. There are a lot of high tech companies in the Austin area and those people came from California and Colorado with their pockets stuffed with money and drive up the prices in Austin for a house. Last time I drove through Austin it took 2 hours to go from 71 up to back to I35 going up MoPac. So thanks but no thanks about trying to live in Austin. As you mentioned Austin has the "Keep Austin Weird" has gone terribly wrong. Back in 78-80 it was weird but nice. Now it is just weird and not in a nice way. Lastly and again, Go Woke Go Broke.

This video was really well done. Good points. Good presentation. As someone who is politically centrist I loved listening to a self-described conservative who sounds eminently reasonable. The country needs intelligent conservatives (not extremists) to push back on progressive governments and challenge them to mitigate against left-wing extremism. There's plenty of extremism on the right and left.

People move there thinking they can keep their tidy suburban bubbles in the Sun Belt with low taxes, cultural conservatism, year-round sunny, warm weather with no thought of its sustainability and cheap prices. Guess what? As economies and populations mature, all the BIG CITY problems you thought you were running away from catch up with you wherever you are. No worries, just keep burying yourself deeper into the new golf course suburbs and countryside, land is cheap, water and clean air inexhaustible, prosperity gospel megachurches keep the pews full, everyone eats at Chick-fil-A, shops at Walmart, Hobby Lobby's, Bass Pro Shops and Buc-ee's and MAGA, Joe Rogan, Jordan Peterson and Elon Musk have all the answers. LOL
