It's a bit strange that Apple didn’t mention anything about improved 3D capture on the iPhone 16 Pro. Why improve the wide-angle lens so much if it's not going to enhance the spatial recording experience?
@jonathansabinvarietyfilms
@jonathansabinvarietyfilms 2 күн бұрын
Not sure if I mention it in this video or another on, but the resolution WILL be improved to match the primary lens in the 16, although the unmatched depth of field will likely still be a problem.

@@jonathansabinvarietyfilms I just checked the official Iphone 16 pro page and it lists Spatial Video as 1080p 30fps. Maybe trough an app like Spatialify we can get 4k 60 fps. Or maybe Apple can do a software update down the line.
@jonathansabinvarietyfilms
@jonathansabinvarietyfilms Күн бұрын
Correct, the encoding format is identical BUT on the 15 the non-primary lens is noticeably not full HD quality. The apps you mention that allow 4K (really in one eye only) only increase that difference, but the increased resolution of 16 should bring them a little closer together.

@@jonathansabinvarietyfilms Is it really that difficult to add post-processing to manually adjust the background blur on the wide lens to match the normal lens? It seems like Apple’s video processing team should have resolved this issue in the first update. Hopefully, development on AVP gets revitalized when Apple announces the new model.
@jonathansabinvarietyfilms
@jonathansabinvarietyfilms Күн бұрын
I wonder how that would turn out, if it’s possible for simulated blur to match true shallow depth of field from the other lens on the fly or even detect it, but that’s a really interesting idea for a solution!

Howard Gardner defined 7 different types of intelligence in 1986, so famously that he wrote about little else for the rest of his career. Another 2 intelligence types were added but this may be overegging, Another way to look at it: Intelligence has different behavior patterns, & we may have All types more or less but one behavior type is usually dominant. Our culture favors Analytic intelligence which Gardner renamed Logical-Mathematical. It's a key theory in educational psychology because assessments that only recognise one or two intelligence types will underrate, & undermine, those who fail in those categories but excel in other ways. I think 3-D moviemaking & appreciation appeals especially to people who make sense of the world mainly with *Spatial Intelligence* . There's a separate category now for *Kinaesthetic Intelligence* that for instance choreographers lead with, but I think Spatial & Kinaesthetic are interrelated more than other Intelligence types. How our senses fathom space & how we move through space & how objects occupy space & how changing perspectives negotiate space in the relativity of 'near' & 'far'....some intelligences investigate & process & adjust to those shifting sands more readily than others. Those folks are the 3D people.

The main camera for the New England Seasons series up to this point has been the JVC GYHMZ1; there are some shots in Vermont Seasons from a Europe variant of the Sony HDR-TD30 which is close enough to mix with 24p footage, and editing was done with PowerDirector. See my video “How to Edit Stereoscopic 3D” if you want a more in depth look at 3D editing with this software.

Enjoyed your review. I have that same LG 65" 4K passive model, and find it to offer stunning 3D from bluray. Mine gives almost no ghosting. What ghosting that did show up happened in the lower left corner if I lay down on my sofa to view the TV, making my head be about 12" lower than the bottom of the screen. If I stood, that ghosting went away. So, I rigged my set so that it leans forward slightly rather than sitting perpndicular on the support cabinet. That "aims" the set slightly downward and the ghosting is gone or very rare now, You mentioned moving your head horizontally and finding the ghosting only shifted location. My point is to suggest you also consider the issue of the VERTICAL aspect of your viewing position (POV). If moving your POV up or down improves or eliminates ghosting you might have a way to fix it.. If it's wall-mounted, you could move the set's location (over a fireplace mantel , for example, would really cause ghosting on mine), or at least raise or lower it. Or, if it's on a cabinet, you could tilt it slightly forward or back to "aim" it better toward the general height of your head as I did. This may not help, but you might experiment a little to see if it's relevant for your set.
