The fact that someone has seen fit to post this again is not thinking straight. If anybody is to blame for this, in my view it is the WTA. I assume that their membership information is computerized and has a reasonable search function. Maria had been submitting the fact that she was taking this medication, under its brand name, (not its constituents which she likely didn't know), for a decade before the WTA chose to ban it. How hard would it have been to do a computer search of their records to see if anyone of their players had declared the medicine(s) containing the now illegal substance and, if the found any, to send them a personal letter/email advising them that the substance had been newly added to the prohibited list. Instead, the post the information deep in the list of forbidden drugs issued yearly which are mainly repetitive to the point that (as I understand it) many players do not have the time to read. In my view, the appropriate action would have been to simply advise her that she must have missed the new addition and issue a warning that her results for that year would be reviewed and possibly reversed. Maria immediately complied by the new rules but was still banned by a jury of WTA members who couldn't possibly be disturbed by her outstanding ability ...cculd they?

Evaluating the 2 players instead of discussing Maria's arguable transgression, I offer the following: Bouchard is an arrogant, vindictive, graceless, insufferable, shorty, child of a grinch. Maria Sharapova is style, class, and everything lovely. Rarely do I launch into such an attack on a human being (Bouchard), but Maria is a unique person with a blessed household name -- Maria Sharapova -- who is on the line. I like Sharapova. First issue you have to address is that the women's circuit has been notoriously cliquish. Players are not close as a group and seem to be divided by country rivalries more than the men. There are fewer Borgs or Federers that all the players like. Bouchard is not a fraction of the tennis player of Sharapova. She’s more similar to Anna Kournikova in that she’s more interested in stardom than tennis, and that her game is not very good. If anything, Sharapova’s 2 year ban was too harsh in my opinion. In this day and age, for every athlete who is caught using PEDs, many more are using them and not getting caught. Anytime I see an athlete pointing the finger at someone who was caught, it makes me wonder if that athlete is trying to divert attention away from herself.
