That’s my first bike when I was 10.. Same color. Modified it myself over time by adding a Hooker header and green weenie. Took the front fender off and painted it. Tuned it, raced it and spent a few summers pushing it to the limit.

I had one in 1973 and crashed it. I was almost 13 years old. I broke my back injured my spinal cord and have been in a wheelchair chair since. 50 years plus and what i would do to be able to ride again. Be careful out there..

Once I got the micro-fische pages off Yamaha's site, I put the corresponding part numbers I was looking for into ebay and tried to get parts that were in original packaging (NOS parts basically). I think I got the tires from Revzilla. The paint was from www.marblesmotors.com, powder coating was a local shop as was the fastener replating.

Such a cool little bike. when I was a little kid I had a Honda SL 70 and my best friend had one of these Yamaha's. one day my friend came to where I lived which was a couple of towns away. and then we wanted to go back to his house. and I'm not sure what came over us be we decided to get on the highway. and it seemed so cool at first, but next thing you know as luck would have it a cop car pulled up right behind us. and we couldn't go any faster on our little bikes. my friend suddenly made a left turn off the freeway somehow and went towards this big parking lot. and somehow the cop car ended up behind my friend and in front of me. I should've just turned in some direction and gotten away. but I wanted to stick with my friend. my friend ended up going full speed through this parking lot and got to a walk in entrance with a cement wall on either side. and the opening to walk through was barely wider than his handle bars and he went through it at top speed. and the cop car did every thing in its power to squeal to a stop and not hit the cement walls. I think the car lottery came within two feet of the walls. and I had no where to go except up this slight ramp to the side of the cop car. and there was no way to get down to where my friend ended up. so I quickly turned the bike around and went to take off. and the cop jumped out of the passenger side of the car and pointed his gun at me and yelled something. I was just a little kid and I froze. those were the days. I loved that time in my life.

Hi there I have recently been given a 1971 mini needs a full rebiluild, if it's to ask roughly how much did your restoration cost?
@triumphrider1
@triumphrider1 Жыл бұрын
This was my dad's restoration, so I don't have exact numbers; but I want to say it was $3,000-$4,000 for everything. That would be powder coating for the black parts, paint, re-chroming parts, re-plating fasteners, new gaskets, new seals, bearings, piston/rings/bearing, clutch plates, tubes&tires, seat foam and cover, decals, cables, etc.

Yup love it. My 1st bike in 1977.. rode the hll out of it.. I just bought a used one on auction for 2k. They claim to have gone thru it but I think they were shade tree mechanics..lol Having clutch issues. cable looks new, clutch plates look new and are in tolerance. There is a ton of slack in the cable so maybe they put in the wrong cable.. I see no adjustments at the lever. The book shows adjustments at both ends but if u look at the cable in parts it only shows adjustment at the bottom end of the cable. so no idea which is correct. ANyway great bike. thanks for sharing

WOW!! I bought one of these beautiful machines brand new from REDLANDS YAMAHA for $1,600.00 cash. The owner delivered it to the house for me and soon after that I was on the High School MX Team. We raced every Friday night against other IE high schools at CORONA RACEWAY and in 1982 our school placed 2nd to Hemet High School. Man oh man I wished I can find another one of these bikes. This was definitely a trip down memory lane. I used to run PROGAS Racing Fuel mixed with HPS PreMix.

My buddy got a 200 cc Triumph Cub. Felt like a toy. So I upped him one and got a Norton Electra 400. After riding with some Triumph 650's I had to upgrade to keep up ! So I found a 64 Triumph Bonne. Sad to say I had to sell it when I was in the US Army. My Dad hated cycles for some reason. So my Mom made the deal while I was away. Really miss her. Now I have a 1967 Trophy. Complete resto but the guy loved black and had everything painted black . Even the chrome fenders and headlight cover. I changed it all back to chrome. I need some shine ! He also took out the points and put in electronic ignition. A little black box now . It had a broken side stand ring on the frame . Can't find anyone here that can weld it. So I never had it done. WISH I had your nice concrete flat driveway. I would take mine out every week or so. 1972 Norton Commando NOS too ! I want your driveway ! Beautiful job by the way ! Thanks for uplifting my spirits !!!

Nice, my "rider" is my '67 C model (tank is my picture). It was my great uncles up until I bought it off him and had my grandfather restore it. He painted his black as well. He said he did it because he thought the guys at the shop he worked at would give him crap about the green, so he painted over it. The side stand must have been a thing. mine broke at the knuckle too and we had to weld it back on. I didn't think it was to bad to weld back on; pre-heating the boss on the frame and the broken part really help it take the weld.

Beautiful restoration! This was the first year for liquid cooling, and I think the only year where the coolant ran up the steering head to the radiator. I frequently had to replace the O-rings in the steering head. This was a beautiful bike -- awesome for a collector, but the 1980 was lighter and lower-maintenance.

@@bonkeydollocks1879 indeed, they were but a sample of some of the bikes i had, along with bunch of friends. Talking to my adult children recently they had difficulty trying to comprehend what we paid for bikes back in the day. You could get a good running completely functioning bike for £10-£25. Of course you could pay a lot more, obviously!!! I remember when I owned a BSA Bantam 175cc two stroke, great little bikes and very popular, here in the UK it was the bike of choice of the Post Office when delivering Telegrams. There were hundreds owned by the PO, of course this was at a time when you applied for a telephone to be installed in your home and the waiting list was 6 months or more. one of my best friends who was well off bought a new Honda Benz Sport 125cc , none of us could believe how smooth and vibration free it was when riding it. In those days we mostly drove late 50's model British bikes.. Still awesome times man, truly awesome
