Wonder what happened to Briony Gardener. I wasn't aware of the Flying Eye at the time, maybe because I live in the Midlands and always have done.

Claimed to be cheaper than BT but line rental 50 p per month more and stopped free Cable to cable calls to other Cable Corporation customers after 7pm weekdays and even weekends. The only operator to do so. Some incentive to join ha

Most expensive cable operator in the U.K compared to all other operators with less channels due to its bad relationship with Bskyb.(appalling TV and phone service) Telewest saved the day by buying its parent company General Cable out.

See Channel line up of Cable Corporation Dec 1995 below. 1.Channel one (Removed in 1996 due to closure) 2. MTV 3. VH1 4. The Box 5. CMTV(Replaced by Carlton Select in 1996) Carlton Select/food network was removed without a replacement in 1998) 6. BET/Travel Channel 7. Service Station 8. Sky one. 9. TLC/Performance Channel 10. Discovery Home and Leisure/Discovery Channel 11, BBC One 12. BBC Two 13. ITV 14. Channel 4 15. Sky news( Removed and replaced by Channel 5 in 1997 16. CNN(Removed and replaced by BBC news 24) 17 Nickelodeon 18. UK Gold. 19. TCC/Family Channel (Removed and never replaced 1997) 20. Sky Sports 1 21. Sky sports Gold/ 2 22. Eurosport 23. The movie Channel 24. Sky Movies Gold. 25. Sky movies 26. Cartoon Network/TNT 27. UK living 28. QVC 29. Bravo 30. Live TV 31. HVC 32. Adult Channel 33. TVX 34. ZEE TV( Dropped and replaced by Sony TV in 1998) 35. Asianet 36. SAT 1 ( Charged as a premium Channel £1 per month) Disgraceful as all other cable companies who carried it made it available in their basic package.) 37. RAI UNO ( Charged as a premium Channel £1 per month) Disgraceful as all other cable companies who carried it made it available in their basic package.) 38. Videoplex ( Became Sky Sport3 in 1996 and charged as a premium Channel in Feb 1997 extra £ 3 per month by the Cable Corporation when it was a bonus channel if you subscribed to both Sky Sports 1 and 2. A disgrace because Sky and other Cable firms never charged the extra £ 3 per month) ie Telewest Nynex etc) 39. Christan channel, Parliamentary Channel/ Namaste Channel. 40. Disney Channel 41. Bloomberg TV 42. Sc fi Channel. 43 Granada Plus Men and Motors ( October 1996) 44. Granada Good life/Food and Wine ( October 1996) Key Channels never carried on the General Cable/ Corporation's network included. Paramount Comedy Channel, History Channel, Challenge TV, NBC Super Channel., Sky 2, National Geographic Channel and Sky Soap. Please not this is all before Telewest saved the day with take over in 1998 and gradually restored some services in summer 1999. The Cable Corporation was so expensive and charged £45 per month £10 per month more than other cable companies and a whopping £18 per month than Sky Tv for a lesser Tv choice of programming. Prices I have mentioned came into effect from August 1997 and included Sky premium Channels. Prior to this The Cable Corporation increased prices 3 times before within the space of 14 months.

TCC/Family Channel was good . In 1997 Family Channel became Challenge tv however the new channel was never carried on the The Cable Corporation network. A few months later it also removed TCC without a replacement or reason.

I beg to differ to think that Cable Corporation was one of the largest cable companies in the UK at best it was ranked 8 out of around 12 cable companies in the UK at the time. Its parent company General Cable only initially had interests in some assets listed below. Yorkshire Cable 50 per cent(Wholly owned in 1996 by General Cable after buying out Singapore Telecom) Birmingham Cable only had an interest of 45 per cent the rest owned by Comcast UK Partners and Telewest. The Cable Corporation 83% the rest owned by Telewest.17%. The real big boys in the industry were. 1. Telewest Communications who eventually bought General Cable in 1998. 2. Nynex Cable Comms( Cable & Wireless following 3 way merger) 3, Bell Cablemedia (Cable & Wireless following 3 way merger) 4. International Cabletel AKA NTL. Other operators in Size order were. 5. Comtel/Telecential Parent company to Swindon Cable. 6. Videotron(Cable & Wireless following 3 way merger) 7. Comcast UK partners. who owned Cambridge Cable and Teeside Cable. 8, General Cable. 9. Diamond Cable. 10. Eurobell 11. Cable London joint venture between Comcast and Telewest. 12. Westminister Cable/ Milton Keynes Franchise (owned by BT) The Cable Corporation had a poor cable TV channel line up compared to the top 4 and did not even carry the Sky 2 channel in 1996 all together and made excuses that they were not doing so as with many large operators which was false. In 1997 after another Bskyb spat General Cable raised it subscription prices significantly and reduced it tv services further by omitting existing channels such as Sky news, CNN, Carlton food network/ Carlton Select and TCC on the Cable Corporation network. It also never added the popular Challenge Tv and Paramount Comedy channel, along with others until Telewest took over in 1998. General Cable/ Cable Corporation even bizarrely claimed that they had given up marketing in relation to not looking/ targeting new analogue cable customers and the emphasis was to push cable phone rather than T.V to the astonishment of the rest of the cable industry. Please see information retrieved form an article written by a journalist Cathy Newman in 14/11/1997 which backs up what I am saying. General Cable declined to comment yesterday. However, last month the company denounced the way it was forced to "subsidise Mr Murdoch", and scaled back its involvement in cable television. Interim pre-tax losses of pounds 25m this year resulted in General Cable raising its subscription prices and reducing the variety of television services on offer. Thank God Telewest bought General Cable and now as Virgin Media everything is unified

What you have to remember is that back in the 19 80's all football fans were treated as potential. Hooligans , so we were all treated the same , hearded into pens treated like animals . The police and the football authorities looked on us as Hooligans . How David Duckrnfield has lived with himself all these years is baffling, 97 deaths on his hands

I'm sure some of them weren't great and there might be some merit. But to say ALL of them were drunk hooligans is so disingenuous. It is at the end of the day the responsibility of the event organisers to ensure that OHS is met and they failed badly.

Liverpool fans were the worst behaved fans and known as hooligans. However I think the main mistakes were Not playing the match at a bigger capacity ground such as old trafford Giving the bigger fan base the smaller capacity end Not delaying the kick off when 5000 fans were delayed getting in by kick off Fans arriving too late Police or stewards not directing fans to the empty pens Only allowing two ambulances onto the pitch Not having open gates on the side of the pens to filter fans away from the crowded pens
