Back in school, our k6th grade schools talent contest had one of my class mates and his older senior high school brother perform this song and other CCR songs on stage. My class mate played the drums and his older brother had vocals and guitar. They were great and l new from then on ' that "Credence Clearwater" was going to be one of my favorite bands. total bad ass tunes when l was growing up in 1970🔧👍😎

Considering that this is Southern, New Orleans Bayou song, most likely is referring to a practitioner of Voodoo. Hoodoo has around 3 meanings. 1. Is the geological meaning, like a protruding spikelike thing in the sand. 2. Voodoo practitioner 3. Something or someone that brings bad luck.
