I disagree with your style over substance comment, especially about how cool the characters are. Yea they are cool, but not for the sake of being cool, the majority of the characters are vain and greedy. All of their cool wallets and such emphasize how much they care about their self indulgence. In my opinion the “cool” factor is often used in his films to showcase character development/ opinions. We usually like the “cool” even on the villains.

It's just such a close and such a good memories from me, listening to this band 20 years ago in rural Russian area :) And it's still holds on, such a pity that it not much being talked about it nowadays. What aspects are you referring to please? Generally speaking most of the signatures probably come under some aspect of postmodernism. However, I wouldn't say "Pulp Fiction" is especially experimental.

I love whenever Pauline Kael's name comes up these days. She wrote essays about the most mediocre films which made me want to actually see just how mediocre they were. As for Vertigo, it just wouldn't be the same without Kim Novak. She's just surreal. Jimmy Stewart, on the other hand, wears much too much makeup to appear younger. Ralph Meeks would have been fantastic.

Anybody know when it was decided that the sex scene between Deckard and Rachel was a "rape scene"?
@magiclantern667 ай бұрын
It's sometimes called a "hate scene" rather than a love scene. The way I read it is that he doesn't see her as a real person. He tells her what to say and do as he's programming a computer. Or maybe he's giving her some human emotions to experience in order to make her more real? In the end, he is in love with her. His encounter with Batty, who shows him mercy and compassion, may have convinced him that the replicants are valid people with genuine feelings and dreams. Of Electric Sheep.

I don't do film studies and am just here for quick Spanish revision (we also study this film), but in case anyone does, I'd like to mention that when Vidal greets Carmen and Ofelia coming out of the car, he addresses them with Bienvenidos, the masculine form of welcome (in Spanish, the masculine is used when a group contains both masculine and feminine, even if there were 99 feminine and 1 masculine) and in doing so, addresses his unborn child whilst assuming that it will be a boy. It shows his vain dream of having a strong son to whom he can give his watch, as his father gave him, and his willingness to dismiss his wife and stepchild. (sorry if this gets mentioned in the second part or anywhere else, but I'd imagine it doesn't since you guys will be reading the subtitles most likely)

Wow! What an interesting insight. Something I never would have picked up on. Thanks Bob!

@@MrGardnersFilmStudiesChannel Thanks for the video too, our question today was about Vidal's aggression and I used your point about him un-buttoning his shirt before the torture and mercedes scenes to show that he enjoys it. Not something I'd thought of, but very telling.
