Hi I am after some advice please if you could help,I have a milners 212 safe the number in the centre above the door is H5961 and there’s another number on right hand side 1708 do you think it will be possible to date this by any chance? Also, I am doing a full restoration on this. How would you say the best way to get the steel plugs out to remove the door off the hinges Thank you

I think the lock for this safe has a keyway guide sticking out from the front of the lock and sticks out about half an inch and think it has 8 levers.

@keymad4 I think youre correct. The Price lock I have has a 'nose' sticking up, out of the case, about an inch. The key goes into it. And the lock locks automatically, like a snap latch.

Filler removed from grub screws, hinge height and eccentric position was adjusted. Now handle is sweet to turn and the door opens and closes easily. Professional Safe Engineers. Alan Morgan Master Locksmiths

I was locked out of my safe and nothing I tried would work, then I tried to using the battery on the outside but it wouldn't work then without the battery I pushed the *and # button in for 5 seconds and put in my code and it resey my lock

Hello Alan. That is certainly an oddball. There were only a couple U.S. safes that used the same idea as well, and likely from the same general time period. I think that that is the first and only Geo. Price safe I have seen. And yes very nice condition.

I seen one these broken into they cut down the side of it the shoulder of the box and cut out a piece. And probably use wire hooks to fish the bags of cash out. The cops said it must of took many hours of cutting. But they defeated it. lol.

I got hold of the same type around 5 years ago and did it up. Very nice in my office now. Got hold of a second for $1.50 yes, one dollar fifty cents two weeks ago. its sitting in the garage waiting my attentions. and yes, they are a bugger to lift on your own. Got extra work for the second one, the top and bottom are bowed a little with rust. door frame still works and is tight but good, i need to heat and hammer the tops flat again i think.

@@SandVat it is very random I havent the foggiest how the algorithms work sadly! I'm an amateur locksmith myself but just do domestic jobs but ADORE safe work it's just too niche and specialist for me to get into but it's my favourite area of locksmithing.

How do you find what year they were made?

Many times from serial number, but not always possible with every manufacturer. Sometimes construction and locks give a rough idea

Hello Alan, I have a question. I was cleaning the basement and found my old digital safe to check if it still works, which it does, but the issue is that it can be opened with any code I enter. Doesn't matter if the code is 4 digits or 1, it opens up. I also tried to reset and set a code, doesn't work. Any ideas?

Without knowing the brand and model I can't really help. From sound of it the lock is not highest quality though!

@@SandVat It's Nutool sf 16. Yes, I believe it is hardly of any quality, my parents bought it when we had to stay in a different place for a while, afterwards it just stayed in the basement. :) That was more than a decade ago

How do you open this if the batteries die and you've lost the key?

That was the case here, lock picked open without damage or drilling. New batteries got it working and note to replace thwm every year in future. Lock can be rekeyed for additional fee

Gotcha. I was hoping there was a way to apply power to the little plug on the back of the keypad so I could then enter my combo.

@tgammoncad might well work, but lock is simplest approach for me, and no danger of accidentally damaging the circuits. Definitely worth a try, use a multimeter to check for the battery power leads. Even when flat there's usually low voltage
