Who else got this recommended in 2024? This video was published around 2013, the year Kipchoge ran his first marathon in Hamburg, and 3 years before carbon plated shoes took over marathon running. The running community on youtube was in its infancy. Basically only the proper running form has stayed the same.

I think I am having a similar problem. My landing feet is a bit ahead of my hip (also have a bit kick out action before pull back for landing). My hip has a very obvious dip during landing. So these two actions are related. So it is duo to the lazy swing leg? Before seeing this video here, I did adjust my body leaning forward, landing is a bit closer but still have the hip dipping problem. I am glad I found the video here and may try to pull my swing leg a bit faster and take another slow motion video. I have an another problem is my stride length is too small. I guess it may need to work in my hip flexors in order to improve it.

Great comments on a v helpful video I would add that Moses rate of hip extension plays a critical part in speed , as it does with Kebele, for example.I don’t see this feature discussed on thread it’s a critical element to fast running!

I think you have overlooked the fact that her back arm accentuates the breakout from the support leg, and those move is very well synchronized each step.

I think if you want to run like this you simply have to train yourself to rin like this ....you can't run slower speeds or slower cadences. Need to program yourself to do it. Try running at 190 steps per second steps per minute for 1 minute interval followed by a walking interval. Repeat that as many times as you can with good form. That's your total workout. Next day take a rest day. Repeat. I bet this guy wouldn't even bother running at a slower speed or, especially, cadence, he'd just walk instead.

I had no idea their technique is superior. Was sure that it's mostly about having the organism optimally adapted for endurance. Can't form my own conclusion as for technique because I'm a noob.

The "rotation" of the upper torso is movement of the shoulder mass ahead of COG, which is the easiest way (less effort) to counteract long leg extension behind COG. Body does it naturally, and loose, natural women do it more than men because of the relative shoulder mass involved. That's my theory. Tirunesh and other diminutive African women stand out for this, and achieve tremendous stride length in flight

Keep in mind that most people cannot run a marathon at this velocity, and so each motion should be a little shorter, and the fact that normal people do not have the same bone and joint and tendon strengh as these world class athletes. The hardest part for most people is to keep a good cadence at a lower velocity. I would recommend doing 10% of your running barefoot, and this will help teach you how to reduce your cadence, by reducing how much pressure you put onto the ground, and not just by taking smaller steps. Optimally you'd do 50% of your training barefoot, but this is likely to cause injuries if introduced too quick, because a lot of calf and foot muscles simply aren't ready to take the load.

Notice how he doesn’t force his foot upward at the ankle (forced dorsiflexion) just before he’s about to land (which makes it likely to land on your heel first- no bueno), but keep his foot straight, if not ever so slightly pointed downward, allowing to easily land on the forefoot (ball of foot) easily. He generates enough force using his Achilles tendon and calves to push himself off, propelling him forward. Maintaining a perfect rhythm and cadence. Truly remarkable!

Hi @Jacky I love your videos and find them clot be very informative!! I really do hope that you continue to teach people like me the pose method of running! As an active runner, I’d really like to limit the amount of running related injuries. Do you think if I sent you a video of myself you could give me constructive criticism and feedback? If not that’s totally fine!! Hope you’re doing well!!

Please keep going!! I love all your videos from 6-9 years ago!! Very interesting. I learned a lot. I guess many of your clients are year-long office sitters with shortened hip flexors and the need to learn how to balance the body in front of the rear leg rather than to reach out with a leg and pull the sitting body forward.

These are obviously not barefoot runners, this is clearly a transitory part of a triathlon as they’re switching from swimming and getting to their bikes. Not a good source of info on barefoot running technique. Another more important giveaway is their poor running technique- not all but most are heel striking which is not natural nor sustainable when running barefoot.Experienced barefoot runners run with a forefoot strike.
