Woolmer got an absolute screamer! A year earlier,he scored 149 against Australia but was unable to produce that form against this murderous bowling attack. The manner of his dismissal gives credence to the fact that Holding was bowling exceptionally fast.

Clear penalty here 24:40. They always cheat for the USA. They did at the olympic final in 2004, did here (luckily brazil won) and they did it at the final in Paris 2024

8:00 The LBW decision Gower got here was a real shocker! He didn't play a shot, but the delivery from Garner was clearly going over the top of the stumps. Listen to the surprise in commentator Jim Laker's voice when the decision is given!

This is why when runs scored are being compared, one has to think of the era. These cricket fields were huge compared to those now. Scoring a hundred then was really an achievement. The boundaries are too short now. Batsmen could run four then. What a feat.

John Emburey's batting was an eccentric mixture of blocks and well timed short arm jabs with a minimum of foot movement. It was effective, though. He still holds the record, I think, for the most runs scored for England in test matches without a test century.

Michael Holding missed the first Test due to illness, and here in the second Test ,he was not yet fully fit. This was the match in which Trevor Bailey stated, from the book 'GROVEL,' 'This is the first time I've seen anyone bowl faster than Frank Tyson at his peak.' Even on this dead track,Roberts and Holding,in particular, were bowling spells that were spectacularly quick.

When Kalli peppa Lillee !!! Who can forget! We had no t.v. then but listened to the radio and saw images. By the way, the name 'Lillee' conjured up 'helluva' then! Sheer terror! Dig the archives and see how many like scenarios you can find. Hence, Kallicharan the great!

Okay someone tell me if I’m imagining this or it’s true: the boundary line appears to be far away from the pitch - folks were able to easily run four runs while fielders gave the ball a long chase. Nowadays the boundary appears to be so short. Isn’t there a uniform rule in cricket that the boundary has to be a certain distance from the pitch?
