That pocket you said would be good for your wallet is for your crochet needles That’s funny. I guess your not a crochet or knitter. But that’s ok. Quilting is a full time hobby in itself

Yes I can. They were hanging in the laundry section. I don’t recall the name brand.

Do you ever use water soluble pens for marking? Great video.

Sometimes. I prefer the AirErase pens by Sewline but occasionally use a water soluble marker.

A hand embroidered, hand priced, hand quilted baby quilt. I was in my 20s.

My first quilt and first ever sewing project was in 2020. I was a 63 year old anaesthetic nurse and then Covid came. It was such a scary time in the lives of the medical world and I needed something to help my mental state on my days off. I decided to make a single memory/story/photo quilt, 100% hand sewn, for my granddaughter in South Africa. We had extremely strict lockdowns in Australia and so the longer the lockdowns, the larger the quilt became, finally ending up with a queen sized quilt. It even became reversible and I had about 50 photos. When I began the quilting I discovered your channel, and the specific video was the pink quilt when you did easy random wavy markings then the hand quilting. When our borders opened in April 2022, I took the unfinished quilt first to Croatia where we visited our son, then to South Africa when I finished it, finally in June 2022 when I sewed on my two labels. The quilt took two years. That was the convenience of hand sewing. I have said it before, thank you once again for that video. I am currently in Croatia where I am finishing my son’s large quilt, which I have quilted the same way. It is a large memory quilt, also reversible and I have used all his hoodies and Tshirts in irregular blocks. On the front I have a large film reel appliqué about his life that I am putting on now. I have taken about 15 months so far, so not too bad. I have two more quilts to make and I am starting to have some problems with my left wrist, but I am mindful of that. For those quilts I will use this basting method of yours. Thank you once again.

My first quilt was in 1988 and it was a tree skirt with Eleanor Burns Quilt In A Day. The pattern was log cabin 60 degree angle and I loved it. I didn't know how difficult it was going to be but I had loads of fun!

Its not a size "large". Bobbins have two sizes L and M. Domestic (home) machines have an L bobbin, Longarm machines have an L or M bobbin. M bobbins are larger.

How does it stitch over those small pieces of plastic that you punch in to the quilt to baste it?
@QuiltShowNews3 ай бұрын
Yousnip them out just before quilting a section But I have seen over them and you can still just snip them out with small scissors.

I've been doing some kawandi inspired work using some used clothes fabrics of my own, mixed in with other scraps. I have been doing some qayg using Daisy and Grace templates, and doing mini strip units, adding blanket stitch variations to them and joining them together. I love slow stitching.

Just found your channel. ❤ Back in 1975 my sweet Aunt Vera sent me a hand made quilt with red, pink, black and purplish triangles in a velvety velour fabric. The backing red. This was for my high school graduation. Some of the pieces were from an old housecoat of hers . It was lovely and still is but a bit worn😊. It has been with me a long time and we refer to it as black and red. Your stitching kinda reminds me of kawandi which I want to try except there are no raw edges. Subscribed😊

Good morning… just found your channel and enjoyed this video so much … my first quilt shop was in a log cabin turned into a quilt shop . It was so nice and country style with quilts on a bed all hand sown by Mennonite women !! Bought my first kit and got advice ….when I brought the small quilt back to show them and it was my first experience with the quilting police 😱!!! My whole life I’ve always made clothes and even shirts for my dad with confidence but this made me so nervous…. A few years later a wonderful mom and daughter quilt shop opened near by and I found encouragement there and no perfection!! Just what I needed and I’ve been enjoying quilting my way for years. Subscribed to your channel… thank you for your encouragement for the joy of quilting…God bless !

A 2" square wraps around a 3/4" hexie template well enough, even though I prefer a 2 1/2" square wrapped around a 1" template. I do use 1 1/2" strips for a strippy border. Otherwise, smaller scraps are saved for thread catchers when I'm sewing on the machine. I haven't quite caught on to the Crumb quilting craze. I do have a couple rolls of adding machine tape, so I guess if I ever get bored with my other quilts, haha.... I'm really on a roll with them, for now, though, since I still have larger scraps. After making new curtains for our pop up camper, I do have plenty left of the K sized sheet set for sashing on a quilt I'm working on now.

What size needle do you use? Thank you, Karen Sorenson

I use many different needles. They need to have a large eye to thread, and a sharp point.
@alisonpowley54026 ай бұрын
Love the big stitch finish. What threads did you use?
@QuiltShowNews5 ай бұрын
I use embroidery floss, three strands.
@wendywilson17366 ай бұрын
I like to use crochet thread, #12, 10, or even 8. I started with the craft thread (probably like a #5 thread, that is for making friendship bracelets) when I made my grandson's quilt as a toddler. He's 10 1/2 now, and the quilt is still in great shape.😊. I like the chuncky stitches. But, since it was harder to pull through, I did my next quilt with the sizes mentioned above. Big stitch quilting is the only way I will hand quilt, anymore. I may combine it with some machine quilting, but I really like relaxation of the big stitch/big thread quilting. I may try 6 strand floss on my next quilt after my autumn quilt. I have a lot of it.

I am wondering what size of needle do you use? I like how crochet thread feels and look but struggles to pull it through the 3 layers.

Hi Deborah. I washed my mum's gorgeous quilt (black with vivid bright colours) with 2 others and the black bled all over everything and now the colours are all muted and dull and dirty looking. What temperature do you use in your wash cycle?
@QuiltShowNews6 ай бұрын
I use cold water as many washes as needed to get the most color to be captured in the Color Catcher.
